Macfarlane Generators Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic/Diesel Fitter for Workshop/Hire Department to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a hands-on technical position based in our Clayton South VIC 3169 facility. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of diesel-powered generators and related equipment. You will play a crucial part in ensuring our hire fleet remains in optimal working condition, supporting both our internal operations and our valued clients. This position is ideal for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in delivering quality workmanship and reliability.

What you'll be doing

- Perform routine maintenance and preventative servicing on diesel generators, engines and associated equipment
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and testing equipment
- Repair and replace defective components, including fuel systems, cooling systems, and engine parts
- Conduct thorough inspections of equipment before and after hire to ensure safety and operational standards
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all equipment serviced
- Test repaired equipment to verify functionality and performance specifications
- Communicate with Department Manager regarding repair progress and service requirements
- Adhere to health and safety regulations and workshop procedures at all times
- Support the hire department by preparing equipment for rental and managing turnaround times

What we're looking for

- Formal qualification as a Diesel Mechanic or Diesel Fitter, or equivalent demonstrated experience in diesel engine servicing and repair
- Proven experience working on diesel generators, engines or similar heavy machinery in a workshop environment
- Strong technical knowledge of diesel engine systems, including fuel injection,



cooling, electrical and hydraulic systems
- Proficiency with mechanical and electrical diagnostic tools and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals and service specifications
- Sound understanding of workshop health and safety practices and compliance requirements
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual and professional attitude towards work
- Experience with hire fleet management or customer-facing technical roles is desirable
