Job Summary

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for supporting the laboratory team through cleaning, organisation, sample preparation, inventory management, and general laboratory support activities.

This is a hands-on support role where the majority of time is spent:

- cleaning laboratory equipment and workspaces
- preparing, filling, labelling, and packing samples
- receiving, processing, and organising raw materials
- conducting routine quality control testing under instruction
- assisting with batch approval and stability testing activities
- dispensing and packing customer ingredient orders
- maintaining laboratory organisation and housekeeping standards

The role works closely with the Laboratory Manager, Formulation & Quality Technician, Formulation & Compliance Technician and other Laboratory Assistants to ensure the laboratory remains organised, efficient and well supported.

This is an entry-level position that provides an opportunity to develop technical laboratory skills while supporting day-to-day laboratory operations.

Responsibilities and technical involvement may increase over time as competency and experience develop.

Duties & Responsibilities

Laboratory Cleaning & Housekeeping

- Clean laboratory equipment, utensils, mixing vessels, glassware, benches, and workstations
- Maintain clean, safe, and organised laboratory and storage areas
- Dispose of waste appropriately and return equipment to correct locations
- Maintain professional housekeeping standards and report damaged or faulty equipment

Sample Preparation & Dispatch

- Prepare customer, production, and internal development samples
- Manufacture repeat and simple samples from approved formulations under supervision
- Prepare, fill, label, pack, and dispatch sample containers
- Prepare equipment and raw materials for sample manufacture
- Maintain sample storage areas, inventories, and dispatch records
- Assist laboratory technicians with formulation and sample preparation activities

Ingredient Dispensing & Packing

- Pick and dispense raw materials for customer ingredient orders
- Verify ingredient names, quantities, batch numbers, and traceability details
- Label, package, and prepare ingredient orders for dispatch
- Maintain dispensing records and clean dispensing equipment




- Assist with ingredient stock counts and ensure orders are completed accurately

Inventory & Stock Management

- Organise raw material, packaging, consumable, PPE, and retained sample storage
- Assist with receiving deliveries, inventory counts, and stocktakes
- Maintain inventory records and report low stock levels
- Ensure laboratory supplies remain adequately stocked

Laboratory Support

- Prepare equipment and materials for laboratory testing and trials
- Assist with sample, stability, and retained sample preparation
- Assist with routine laboratory testing under instruction
- Support laboratory and product development projects
- Assist with equipment checks, calibration preparation, and usage records

Quality Control & Batch Approvals

- Assist with routine finished product and batch approval testing
- Perform pH, viscosity, colour, odour, appearance, and texture assessments
- Record results and compare them against approved specifications
- Maintain quality control records and testing logs
- Assist with quality, complaint, and production investigations
- Report out-of-specification results or quality concerns promptly
- Complete testing in accordance with approved procedures and under trained supervision

Stability & Compatibility Testing

- Prepare, label, store, and retrieve stability samples
- Conduct routine stability and compatibility testing under instruction
- Record results and maintain stability testing records
- Monitor stability chambers, refrigerators, and storage areas
- Assist with testing schedules, shelf-life evaluations, and draft reports
- Ensure stability testing activities remain up to date

Raw Material Receiving & Processing

- Receive and inspect raw materials and packaging components
- Verify deliveries against purchase orders and documentation
- Label, receipt, store, and quarantine materials where required
- Collect retained samples and assist with basic quality checks and release processes
- Maintain raw material records, traceability, and storage locations
- Report damaged, incorrect, or non-conforming materials promptly

Documentation Support

- Print labels, worksheets, and laboratory paperwork
- Maintain organised SDS, CoA, testing, sample, and laboratory records
- Ensure records are accurate, complete, legible, and accessible
- Support document control, SOP, and GMP requirements

Production & Warehouse Support





- Collect and move materials between the warehouse, laboratory, and production areas
- Prepare materials for production trials and batch approval activities
- Assist with production trials, retained samples, and material labelling
- Support investigations relating to production or filling issues
- Communicate quality or material concerns promptly

Marketing & Content Support

- Assist with technical and educational marketing content
- Contribute to blog articles, EDMs, customer materials, and social media content
- Provide relevant laboratory and ingredient information
- Help showcase Solskin Beauty Labs' expertise and capabilities

Development & Training

- Learn laboratory procedures, cosmetic ingredients, products, and quality systems
- Develop knowledge of GMP, sample preparation, quality control, stability testing, and batch approvals
- Participate in training and continuous improvement activities
- Progress technical skills and responsibilities over time

Safety

- Follow laboratory safety, PPE, SDS, and chemical handling requirements
- Handle materials, chemicals, and equipment safely
- Maintain safe and tidy work areas
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately
- Support safe work practices across laboratory, warehouse, and production areas
