About Us
We're an award-winning, lean, and quality focused product development firm based in Melbourne.
We help clients turn ideas into real, scalable electronic products. Combining electronics, embedded, and software expertise, we deliver end-to-end development - from concept and prototyping through to production and launch.
As a boutique team built on reputation and results, we're looking for our next key hire.
About the Role
The role is hands-on, where you'll take real ownership of embedded software on client projects.
At the start of projects, you'll help workshop and come up with the technical requirements, help decide the solution architecture, and build proof-of-concept systems to demonstrate function.
You'll write production-quality firmware/software, troubleshoot prototypes in the lab, and integrate and verify firmware and hardware together to form a fully working system.
Support and mentorship will be given by our Embedded Systems Lead, who provides technical direction, review input, and a sounding board as you grow into the role.
What To Expect
- Working in a small, tight team (3-4 developers) in a high-performing consulting environment.
- Client-facing responsibilities,
with support to develop your project and client management skills.
- Varied work that rewards good priority management and strong communication.
- Opportunities to contribute to project management, processes, and overall operations.
- Working-from-home and flexible hour options available after a successful probation period.
Responsibilities
- Create and build proof-of-concept and technical feasibility systems with evaluation kits.
- Develop production-quality firmware for use in commercial, mass-produced products.
- Contribute to product concepts, requirements, architecture, estimates, and risk management from an embedded software perspective.
- Perform PCB bring-up and hardware troubleshooting, independently integrating, testing, and verifying firmware and hardware on recent prototypes.
- Diagnose and resolve complex firmware and system-level issues using standard and advanced lab equipment (oscilloscope, power supply, logic analyser, etc.).
- Engage directly with clients to communicate design decisions and progress.
- Provide ongoing support for released products.
- Support with general operations – handling deliveries, hosting workshops, continual improvement, process development, etc.
Qualifications
Essential
- Australian working rights.
- Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering degree (Bachelor or Masters).
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems / firmware development.
- RTOS framework experience (e.g. Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or similar) in commercial products.
- Experience STM32, nRF, and ESP32 platforms (programming, development, debugging)
- Demonstrated use of standard communication protocols (BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE, CAN, SPI, I2C, etc.)
- Strong Git, version control, and release management skills.
- Essential electronics skills – schematic review, circuit understanding, hardware troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to identify issues with firmware integration on new prototypes
Nice To Have
- General software development - building dashboard mockups, test tools, integrations, scripts
- Direct, hands-on experience with Zephyr RTOS.
- Embedded Linux and Linux platform experience.
- Experience with embedded tooling, test automation, and CI.
- Previous consulting/services-provider experience, working directly with clients across many projects.
- Proven experience with coding standards - MISRA, IEC 62304, IEC 61508, ISO 26262
Benefits
- Inner-city location with access to tram, train, and bus transit options.
- Shared on-site car parking.
- Work phone for client and internal communications.
- Prospect to travel to client sites for collaboration, EMC/safety testing, and manufacturing transfer.
- Career growth into senior/principal developer or technical project management
