Director/Senior Director, Compensation at Flagship Pioneering, Inc.

About the role Flagship Pioneering is seeking a strategic and experienced leader to oversee and enhance non-executive compensation programs within its diverse global ecosystem. This role is integral to the Total Rewards team and will manage compensation strategies for our Series A and B portfolio companies. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of broad-based compensation practices and demonstrate exceptional leadership and communication abilities.

What you'll do

- Design, implement, and continuously improve broad-based compensation programs tailored to various geographical regions, taking into account salary structures, job classifications, and bonus frameworks.
- Lead the annual compensation review process, working in close partnership with HR Business Partners, Finance, and Talent Acquisition teams to ensure alignment and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with recruitment teams to develop competitive job offers that reflect market standards while maintaining internal equity and fairness.
- Conduct ongoing market analysis and compensation benchmarking utilizing tools such as Radford and Pave to ensure competitiveness.
- Develop and uphold frameworks for pay transparency and equity throughout the organization, fostering a culture of fairness and openness.
- Partner with leaders in executive compensation, equity, and benefits to create a cohesive Total Rewards strategy that aligns with organizational goals.
- Serve as a strategic consultant to HR Business Partners and senior leadership on compensation practices, offer structures,



and policy interpretation.
- Prepare and deliver insights, reports, and recommendations to senior management, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
- Remain updated on compensation regulations across key regions, crafting localization strategies to guarantee compliance and competitive positioning.
- Provide expert guidance on compensation matters related to global mobility and cross-border assignments, ensuring smooth transitions for employees.
- Oversee the management of compensation tools and systems to ensure efficient program delivery and effectiveness.
- Support compensation-related initiatives during mergers, acquisitions, and the formation of new companies, ensuring seamless integration of compensation practices.

Requirements

- A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree or relevant certifications such as CCP will be considered a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in compensation roles, particularly in broad-based compensation within high-growth or startup environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing compensation for global teams and navigating complex organizational structures effectively.




- Strong executive presence with the capability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate recommendations clearly and persuasively.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in compensation data and reporting.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.

Nice to have

- Previous experience in the biotechnology or life sciences industries, providing relevant insights into sector-specific compensation challenges.
- Familiarity with international compensation practices and regulations, enhancing the ability to manage global compensation strategies.
- Experience in leading compensation-related projects during organizational changes, such as mergers and acquisitions.

Skills & tools

- Proficient in compensation analysis tools and methodologies, including Radford and Pave, to conduct effective market comparisons.
- Strong understanding of compensation regulations across various jurisdictions, ensuring compliance and competitiveness in compensation practices.
- Advanced analytical skills with a focus on data interpretation and reporting, enabling informed decision-making.
- Familiarity with HRIS systems and compensation management software to streamline compensation processes.
