About the role The Associate Director of Finance at Flagship Pioneering will be a vital member of the finance team supporting the Pioneering Medicines portfolio. This role involves managing financial planning, reporting, and accounting functions, providing critical insights to leadership to enable strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will work closely with program teams, research and development departments, and other cross-functional groups to ensure financial operations are aligned with the company's goals. The position requires a strong understanding of financial processes within a biotechnology or life sciences environment, with the ability to handle complex financial data and communicate insights effectively. What you’ll do

- Act as a strategic financial partner to leadership and program teams, providing insights and analysis that support decision-making across the Pioneering Medicines portfolio.
- Oversee the entire financial planning process, including preparing budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses for multiple programs and projects.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, ensuring all financial reports are accurate, timely, and compliant with company standards and accounting principles.
- Collaborate with Program Managers and other stakeholders to develop detailed program-level budgets, monitor actual expenses against forecasts, and update forecasts as needed.
- Support the financial management of research collaborations and external partnerships, including tracking budgets, ensuring compliance, and managing financial reporting requirements.
- Provide accounting support to ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), prepare for audits, and assist with internal and external audit processes.
- Work with finance and accounting teams to support tax compliance, regulatory requirements,



and complex business transactions.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities within programs and the broader organization, recommending strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
- Lead efforts to improve finance processes, reporting standards, and systems to increase efficiency, scalability, and accuracy of financial data.
- Prepare financial presentations and reports for senior management, board meetings, and external stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop junior finance team members, providing guidance on financial analysis, reporting, and best practices.
- Support the integration of new financial systems or tools, such as NetSuite and Coupa, to streamline operations and reporting.
- Participate in cross-functional projects that impact financial planning, reporting, or compliance.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the company's research and development activities, ensuring financial tracking aligns with project milestones and goals.
- Assist in the development of financial models to evaluate new business opportunities, partnerships, or product pipelines.
- Ensure compliance with all internal policies and external regulations related to financial reporting and accounting.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; an MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
- CPA certification is preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in finance and accounting, ideally within the life sciences, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical sectors.
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting standards, and accounting operations.
- Proven experience managing budgets, forecasts, and financial models across multiple entities or programs.




- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate insights clearly.
- Excellent collaboration skills, with experience working with cross-functional teams including R&D;, legal, and business development.
- Experience supporting research collaborations, external vendors, or consultants is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with financial systems such as NetSuite and Coupa is advantageous.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to lead process improvements.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling sensitive financial information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The salary range for this position is between $148,000 and $203,500, depending on qualifications and experience.
