About our Client:
Our Client, an creative leader in property development and construction based in Darwin, Northern Territory is seeking a Group Payroll Officer to join the team.
About the Role & Responsibilities:
This Darwin-based role will manage end-to-end payroll processing across multiple entities within the Group, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timely delivery of payroll services while providing valuable workforce reporting and insights.
- Process payroll accurately and on time across all Group entities
- Manage payroll changes including new starters, terminations, timesheets, pay adjustments, and off-cycle payments
- Calculate final pays and complete payroll requirements for employee departures
- Maintain accurate employee payroll records, including tax, banking, and payroll information
- Prepare payroll journals, reconciliations, accruals, and general ledger entries
- Process payroll payments, including banking files and related transactions
- Prepare and lodge payroll compliance requirements, including PAYG, superannuation, IAS, and workers compensation reporting
- Support end-of-financial-year payroll activities, including reconciliations, STP finalisation, and audit requirements
- Prepare payroll and workforce reports for Finance, HR, and management
- Maintain payroll systems and ensure data accuracy
- Identify and implement improvements to payroll processes and reporting
- Maintain payroll procedures and documentation to support compliance
- Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and managers
- Work closely with Finance and People & Culture to ensure accurate payroll processing and reporting
To be successful for this role, you will need the following:
- Experience processing payroll across multiple departments or business entities.
- Experience managing payroll for approximately 300 employees, with exposure to weekly, fortnightly, and monthly pay cycles highly regarded.
- Exposure to Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions is desirable.
- Previous payroll experience within the construction and/or hospitality industries is advantageous.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Sound knowledge of payroll legislation, modern awards, and enterprise agreements.
- A proactive approach with a continuous improvement mindset and a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
- Minimum of 1-2 years' payroll experience in a similar role.
