We are seeking a registered Medical Practitioner to join our natural therapies practice as an Authorised Prescriber (AP), providing patients with access to therapeutic goods not otherwise available through the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) — including medicinal cannabis and other complementary and integrative therapies — under the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Authorised Prescriber Scheme.

This role combines clinical consultation, prescribing governance, and a holistic, patient-centred approach to care. You will assess patient suitability, prescribe and monitor treatment within your area(s) of specialty, and ensure prescribing practices remain compliant with TGA, state/territory, and AHPRA requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct patient consultations (in-clinic and/or via telehealth) to assess suitability for treatment pathways not on the ARTG, including medicinal cannabis and other natural/complementary therapies.
- Hold or obtain Authorised Prescriber status with the TGA for the relevant specialty area(s) and product class(es), including preparation of Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) endorsement or specialist college support as required.

- Develop individualised treatment plans that integrate natural therapies with conventional medical care where appropriate.
- Prescribe, titrate, and monitor treatment, reviewing patient response, safety, and efficacy at appropriate intervals.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and reporting in line with TGA Authorised Prescriber reporting obligations (including six-monthly reporting to the approving HREC/TGA).
- Work collaboratively with the clinic's pharmacists, nursing staff, and administrative team to ensure smooth patient onboarding, dispensing, and follow-up.
- Stay current with evolving evidence, guidelines, and regulations relating to medicinal cannabis and natural/complementary therapies.
- Support the clinic's clinical governance framework, including participation in audits, case reviews, and continuous quality improvement.
- Educate and support patients in understanding treatment options, expected outcomes, and protected use.

Essential Requirements

- Current, unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner (General or Vocational Registration).
- Eligibility to hold, or current status as, a TGA Authorised Prescriber (or willingness to complete the application process with clinic support).
- Genuine interest and, ideally, experience in natural, complementary, or integrative therapies.
- Sound understanding of the regulatory framework governing unapproved therapeutic goods in Australia (TGA Special Access Scheme, Authorised Prescriber Scheme, state/territory drugs and poisons legislation).
- Strong clinical judgement, patient communication skills, and commitment to evidence-informed, patient-centred care.
- Current professional indemnity insurance.

Desirable

- Existing TGA Authorised Prescriber status in medicinal cannabis or another relevant therapeutic area.
- Experience in general practice, pain management, palliative care, psychiatry, or a related specialty.
- Postgraduate qualifications or training in integrative, naturopathic, or complementary medicine.
- Experience with telehealth consultation platforms and clinical software.
