Senior Mental Health Clinician – Custodial FYMHS
Location: Parkville, Victoria. Permanent, full‑time (1.0 EFT).
About PYMHWS
Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to young people aged 12‑25 experiencing complex mental health challenges. The service works across Melbourne’s north and west, providing person‑centred, recovery‑oriented care that is culturally safe, trauma‑informed and evidence‑based.
The Opportunity
The Senior Mental Health Clinician is a key position within the Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS). FYMHS delivers specialist care in custodial settings (Parkville, Cherry Creek & Malmsbury). In this role you will provide clinical leadership, supervision and governance to a multidisciplinary team, and deliver comprehensive mental health assessments, case management and evidence‑based interventions.

About the Role
The role is based at the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct, and may involve travel to other FYMHS sites with a workplace vehicle and travel time included within working hours.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct mental health assessments, formulate treatment plans and provide psychological treatment, crisis intervention and family support.
- Deliver clinical care that aligns with PYMHWS standards, ensuring cultural safety and responsiveness to LGBTQI+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, multicultural and multifaith families.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with agencies, community groups and service providers (e.g., AOD services, Youth Justice, primary care).
- Engage in professional development through FYMHS‑specific and broader young mental health training initiatives.
About You
- Eligible disciplines: Psychologist Grade 3, RPN Grade 4, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker.
- Relevant registration and qualifications (see full position description).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in tertiary and/or youth mental health, with demonstrated ability to supervise clinicians.
- Strong understanding of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and community forensic services.
- Motivation to provide youth‑focused, inclusive, recovery‑oriented care.
Background Checks and Immunisation
All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Record Check and a Working with Children Check. Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of an immunisation assessment prior to commencement.
