Role Description
The Senior Laboratory Scientist is a full-time, on-site role based in Brisbane, QLD, responsible for leading and performing complex laboratory experiments and assays related to pathogen detection and diagnostic test development. This role includes planning and executing experimental protocols, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring accurate data collection, analysis, and documentation. The Senior Laboratory Scientist will oversee quality control procedures, troubleshoot technical issues, and support validation and verification of new and existing assays. In this role you will perform and oversee infectious disease molecular diagnostic testing, responsible for completion of analytical and clinical experiments according to regulatory requirements, data analysis and reporting according to regulatory requirements, provide input and completion of troubleshooting experiments, assist with implementation and verification of new methods and technologies,
manage laboratory resources and consumables and contribute to accreditation compliance activities.
Required skills
- Extensive experience in aseptic microbiology techniques.
- Have advanced knowledge and experience in a broad range of molecular biology techniques including (but not limited to) manual and automated DNA/RNA extraction, DNA/RNA quantitation and real-time PCR/qPCR
- Demonstrated high-level analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including experience in the design, implementation, data analysis and reporting
- Demonstrated ability to participate in the design, execution of research and development studies and coordinate the processing and analysis of data
- Demonstrated ability to conduct experiments with minimal supervision and the ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Preparing and revising documents including SOPs, test instructions, testing plans, specifications, result/study protocols and reports for new and improved products and processes
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills and an ability to consistently meet deadlines and commitments
- A high degree of initiative, decision making ability, and highly-developed negotiating skills
- Excellent attention to detail with meticulous record keeping, and scientific writing skills are essential
- Background in clinical/medical microbiology
- Possess an approach to work which emphasises quality, accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
- Keen interest in the state-of-the-art equipment trends and active participation to keep abreast of current applicable technologies
