Healesville

- Based at Corporate offices (Parkville) and Healesville Sanctuary with work from home flexibilities
- Maternity leave backfill
- Fixed term full-time contract up until 15 October 2027
- Salary $106,623 + 12% superannuation

Zoos Victoria operates world-class zoos across four sites: Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary, Werribee Open Range Zoo, and Kyabram Fauna Park. Our passionate team is committed to fighting wildlife extinction, with every employee playing a vital role in our world-leading zoo-based conservation organisation.

We are looking for a Senior Reporter to lead storytelling and communications for Healesville Sanctuary and other locations, identifying and delivering compelling content. Your work will promote Zoos Victoria's Fighting Extinction message and inspire visitation.

As part of the Digital Newsroom (Publicity) team, you will be the primary media and comms advocate for Healesville Sanctuary and other properties.

This is a unique and rewarding role that combines high-level skills in content creation, communications and publicity.

This role is being advertised based on its current scope, with an exciting chance to help shape its future direction as the organisation evolves. In this multifaceted role, you'll have the chance to:

Content creation

- Develop compelling stories that highlight visitation, conservation, activities and Zoos Victoria's people.
- Collaborate with keepers, experts, and in-house videographers to deliver high-impact stories across traditional, digital, and social media platforms.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.

Publicity

- Proactively pitch packaged stories to media to drive positive coverage.
- Identify and secure opportunities for interviews, features, and live crosses across all media formats.
- Manage incoming media requests to ensure timely, effective responses.

Communications

- Provide expert communications advice on internal and external matters.
- Create strategic communications plans for key events like major births.
- Support ministerial announcements and events in alignment with Victorian Government protocols.

If you are capable of most of the above, we can teach you the rest. If you're an accomplished media professional with at least 10 years under your belt and you're after a role that feels more like a mission than a job, this could be your next big move.

For more information on this role, please refer to the position description available via our careers site.

Applications close COB 13 August 2026
