Job Description

Our valued client, NEWCO FARMS is seeking a dedicated and experienced Animal Husbandry Technician to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will provide daily care, including feeding and cleaning, and monitoring the health and behaviour of animals in the farm.

Key Responsibilities

- Key responsibilities involve administering medications, assisting with procedures, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the animals' living environments are clean and protected, all while adhering to strict specific protocols of Newco Farms.
- Monitors and maintains the health and welfare of livestock
- Assists with breeding and raising livestock
- Monitors livestock to evaluate the effectiveness of feed formulae, and assists with the management of livestock nutrition and feeding programs
- Provide food, water, and a clean-living environment for animals, which includes cleaning cages and enclosures
- Observe animals for any signs of illness or distress, monitor their behavior, and report concerns to veterinary or research staff
- Assists in controlled breeding experiments to develop improved livestock strains
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments, and assist veterinarians with medical procedures in strict compliance to Newco Farm's guidelines including completion of all relevant reports and documentation.
- Such paperwork to be completed within the required timeframes
- Artificially inseminates livestock for breeding purposes, conducts pregnancy tests, manages lactation, and cares for young animals
- Collects and collates data for research purposes




- Maintain detailed and accurate records of animal care, health, treatments, and procedures performed
- Ensure animal housing areas and equipment are clean, sterile, and in good working order
- Undertake or reorganise any work procedure as directed by the General Manager and Veterinary Services Manager or as deemed necessary in the absence of a member of staff
- Safely handle and restrain animals for procedures, transportation, or other tasks
- Ensure strict compliance with the principles of quarantine and biosecurity by all Newco Farm's farming operations
- Report workplace hazards identified during the course of work to appropriate person according to standard operating procedures
- Assist in the development and maintenance of Safe Work Practises.
- Support and implement the Company's Accident Prevention Program - support employees/work groups to ensure area is incident/accident free

Skills and Knowledge

- Proficiency in techniques for safely handling and restraining animals is essential
- Ability to interpret animal behavior and a robust understanding of animal welfare principles are crucial
- Knowledge of animal health, common diseases, and proper sanitation and hygiene practices is necessary
- Organisational skills and familiarity with relevant software for record-keeping are important for maintaining accurate data
- Strong communication skills are vital for working effectively with colleagues and supervisors
- Technical skills on administering medication, performing basic lab techniques, or using specific farm equipment
- Familiarity with regulations governing animal care is required

Work location: Tamworth NSW

Salary: $100,000 per annum
