About the role
This role is based in Sydney, where you will lead the technical art strategy for an unannounced R&D; project. You will manage a team of technical artists while bridging the gap between engineering and creative departments to build efficient content pipelines.

What you’ll do
- Manage, mentor, and coach a team of technical artists.
- Collaborate with art, production, and engineering leads to define and implement workflow requirements.
- Maintain and document artist-facing tools and content pipelines to ensure they remain scalable and intuitive.
- Work with engineering to balance technical sustainability with artist usability.
- Optimize content creation pipelines to support parallel production streams.
- Identify workflow bottlenecks and build cross-disciplinary relationships to resolve them.
- Establish technical standards and team goals in partnership with leadership.
- Communicate project risks, constraints, and opportunities to stakeholders.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience as a technical artist in the games industry or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in a people management role leading technical artists or similar technical staff.
- Proficiency in Python and experience creating scalable artist tools and pipelines.
- Professional experience with Unreal Engine 5 and modern content creation workflows.
- Expertise in DCC tool development, specifically regarding Autodesk Maya and Substance Suite.
- Ability to translate artistic needs into technical solutions for multiple disciplines.
- Experience partnering with engineers to improve content creation efficiency.
Nice to have
- Experience designing pipeline architecture for large-scale content teams.
- Background in supporting character, animation, environment, audio, or VFX production.
- Experience with PySide or PyQt for UI development.
- Experience working on early-stage, R&D;, or transitional game projects.
- Interest in the application of AI-assisted workflows for content production.
- Experience with Houdini, Blender, ZBrush, 3DS Max, or Photoshop.
