Head of Cyber Security at netwealth.
About the role Netwealth is on the lookout for an experienced leader to spearhead a newly established cyber security division. This pivotal role involves reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and overseeing a dedicated team of around 20 professionals. The primary focus will be on embedding security practices into engineering workflows, moving away from traditional governance approaches.

What you'll do
- Take charge of building and developing the cyber security department as an independent entity within the organization.
- Oversee various aspects of security operations, including application security and governance related to artificial intelligence.
- Introduce a secure-by-design approach throughout all technology initiatives and software development processes.
- Work on integrating automated security measures and safeguards into engineering workflows and platforms.
- Ensure adherence to APRA CPS 234 standards while enhancing the overall security posture of the organization.
- Formulate strategies for securing new technologies and the adoption of AI within the company.
- Collaborate closely with teams in Product, Engineering, and Platform, as well as executive leadership, to align security measures with business objectives.
- Foster a culture of security awareness and best practices across the organization, ensuring that security is a shared responsibility.
- Monitor and assess the evolving threat landscape to proactively adjust security strategies and measures.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, promoting professional development and continuous improvement.
- Report on security metrics and incidents to senior management, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Engage in industry forums and networks to stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in cyber security.
Requirements
- A proven track record of leading a cyber security function, particularly in high-trust or regulated sectors.
- Strong technical expertise in security engineering and a deep understanding of relevant security frameworks.
- Proficiency in DevSecOps practices, cloud security measures, application security, and security operations management.
- Demonstrated experience in embedding security protocols within CI/CD pipelines and software delivery processes.
- Knowledge of security risk management, assurance processes, and compliance with APRA CPS 234 regulations.
- Familiarity with security controls and governance frameworks related to artificial intelligence.
- Capability to scale security initiatives through automation and influence, rather than solely relying on increasing headcount.
- Excellent communication skills, enabling effective interaction with technical teams, executives,
and board members.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to align security initiatives with broader business goals.
Nice to have
- Experience with security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or similar standards.
- Familiarity with incident response and threat hunting methodologies.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements specific to the financial services sector.
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a technology-driven organization.
- Certification in relevant security disciplines, such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent.
Skills & tools
The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of various security tools and technologies, including but not limited to SIEM solutions, vulnerability management tools, and cloud security platforms. Proficiency in programming or scripting languages for automation purposes is also valuable. Familiarity with security assessment methodologies and risk management frameworks will be essential for success in this role.
