Maybe you've spent the last few years building a solid foundation in planning.
You know the Victorian planning system. You've delivered permit applications, worked on strategic projects, managed clients and built strong technical skills.
More interesting projects. More responsibility. More prospect to work directly with clients and help shape projects from start to finish.
You're looking for a role where you can make a bigger contribution—not because you've stopped learning, but because you're ready for the next challenge.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to talk.
About us
Urban Design & Management (UDM) is a boutique multidisciplinary consultancy delivering planning, urban design and engineering services throughout Victoria.
What makes us different is how we work.
Our planners work alongside urban designers and engineers from the earliest project investigations through to implementation, giving our clients integrated advice and our team exposure to a much broader range of projects and opportunity to work across disciplines.
One week you might be preparing a planning scheme amendment or housing strategy for a regional council. The next, you could be working on a major subdivision within a Precinct Structure Plan, assessing permit applications on behalf of a Council, or advising a private client on a significant development proposal.
The opportunity
We're looking for an experienced planner with around 3–5 years' experience who is ready to take the next step.
You’ll have the opportunity to manage your own projects, work directly with clients and become an integral member of our planning team.
Supported by experienced Principal Planners and Associate Directors who are invested in your development, you’ll progressively build the skills, confidence and experience to take on increasingly complex and rewarding work.
As your experience grows, so will your responsibility.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Manage a diverse range of statutory and strategic planning projects.
- Build strong relationships with local government and private sector clients.
- Work collaboratively with planners, urban designers and engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Mentor and support graduate and intermediate planners.
- Contribute to proposals, new opportunities and the continued growth of the business.
- Develop your technical capability and qualified experience while progressively taking on greater responsibility within our team.
About you
You're probably someone who enjoys solving planning problems, building relationships and taking ownership of your work.
You might already be managing projects, or perhaps you're ready for that opportunity.
Either way, you're looking for a role where you'll continue to learn, be challenged and make a genuine contribution.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Approximately 3–5 years' experience in primarily statutory planning.
- A sound understanding of the Victorian planning system.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Initiative, sound judgement and a practical approach to problem solving.
- Experience in consulting is valued but not essential. If you've developed your skills in local government and are looking to broaden your experience, we’d love to talk.
Why UDM?
We’re proud of the work we do, but we’re equally proud of how we work.
You’ll join a close‑knit team where your ideas are valued, your development is supported and your contribution makes a real difference.
A genuinely multidisciplinary environment where planners work alongside urban designers and engineers.
Interesting projects across metropolitan and regional Victoria.
Direct access to experienced mentors and leaders.
The opportunity to broaden your experience and progressively take on more complex projects.
Versatile working arrangements.
A supportive team culture that values collaboration over hierarchy.
If you’re looking for a role where you can broaden your experience, build trusted client relationships and take the next step in your planning career, we’d love to hear from you.
