We move fast. Our estimating output has not kept pace.
PROJOIN is a Melbourne joinery business scaling into large-scale commercial work: education, health, hospitality, high-end residential. Lead volume is up, project value is up, and the gap in our team is a system that runs the full length of the pipeline: bringing in the right work, pricing it precisely, and closing it. We need someone who owns that whole chain, not just the number in the middle. We need an estimator who can take a complex, multi-trade commercial joinery scope and turn it into an accurate, defensible quote without needing three passes to get there.
This is not a developing role. We're not training someone to become an estimator, we're hiring one who already is. You should be able to walk into a $1M scope on day one and quote it with confidence, without a senior checking your work line by line.
If you're the person on your current team who gets handed the complex job because you won't miss the item that blows the margin, and you're also the one builders actually want to deal with when it's time to close, this is written for you.
What you'll own
The full commercial cycle on your projects: identifying and pursuing the work, pricing it, negotiating it, and closing it
End-to-end quoting on commercial joinery projects
Takeoffs, supplier pricing, and margin control across a genuinely multi-trade scope: joinery, pinboards, whiteboards, metalwork, upholstery, and stone, not just cabinetry
Quote accuracy and turnaround in JOBMAN, our operations platform: every quote you touch needs to be clean, current, and ready to convert to a job inside 24 hours of acceptance
Direct involvement in addendums, RFIs, and scope clarification through the tender period, not just the initial submission
Owning the builder or client relationship through to signature: following up, negotiating final price and terms,
and converting an accepted tender into a Job
Flagging pricing risk and scope gaps before they become someone else's problem in production
What you need to bring
Several years of demonstrated experience estimating joinery or shopfitting projects with quotes averaging $1M in value. This is a senior, experienced hire, not a role we're growing someone into
Working expertise across pinboards, whiteboards, metalwork, upholstery, and stone, not just joinery
Expert-level Bluebeam skills: this is a non-negotiable, not a nice-to-have. We're not training someone into it
Fluency reading architectural and joinery drawings and specs without hand-holding
A track record of high win-quality quotes: priced tight enough to be competitive, accurate enough to protect margin
Confidence to make the call on a price and stand behind it, rather than needing sign-off to feel sure of your own number
Experience working inside a structured ERP; JOBMAN experience is a plus but not required, provided you can pick up a recent system fast without hand-holding
The judgment to know when a lead isn't worth chasing and the discipline to say so early
A genuine track record of winning work, not just quoting it: you can point to tenders you actively pursued, negotiated, and closed, not just priced and handed off
Comfort owning a client or builder relationship end to end, from first contact through to signature, including the uncomfortable parts: chasing a decision,
holding your price under pressure, and knowing when to walk from a bad deal
How you operate
You see the commercial picture, not just the quantities: margin, risk, and buildability are part of every take-off, not an afterthought
You back your numbers with evidence. If a figure gets challenged, you can explain the reasoning, not just defend the total
You flag risk early and in writing, not after the job's underway
You close the loop: you check completed jobs against what you quoted and adjust, rather than repeating the same miss
You're steady under pressure and unbothered by a difficult client or a tight deadline
You're as comfortable picking up the phone and pushing for a decision as you are heads-down in a take-off. This role genuinely needs both, it's not a technical role with sales bolted on
Why PROJOIN
We're not polished, and we won't pretend to be. We're realistic about where we are: a business scaling fast, still building parts of the system as we go. What we do have is a team that runs like a well-oiled machine when it counts, on the floor and in the workshop, not managed from a distance. Communication, accountability, moving with purpose, and raising the bar aren't posters on a wall here, they're how decisions actually get made day to day.
That's also why this hire matters to us specifically. We're not looking for someone to slot into a finished system and follow it. We're looking for someone whose experience makes the system better, and we're genuinely open to being told where we're wrong. If you've got a sharper way to run a quote, price a scope, or handle a close, we want it, and we'll change how we work because of it. You'll have real autonomy and a direct line to leadership when something needs a decision, not a committee.
