Position Overview

The Mental Health Support Worker plays a crucial role in supporting participants with complex mental health needs and psychosocial disability. This role includes conducting risk assessments, working within open community environments, supporting participants in achieving their goals, and ensuring activities are engaging, safe,



and aligned with individual support plans.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist participants in working towards personal goals as outlined in their NDIS plans.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with participants, their families, and other stakeholders.
- Complete all required documentation, including daily logs, communication books, and incident forms, accurately and on time.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments for all activities to ensure participant safety and report potential issues to senior management.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, including training and relevant courses.
- Conduct personal care duties safely, with a focus on participant‑centred care.
- Work with participants with psychosocial and mental health challenges, including those displaying complex behaviours.
- Approach work with an open values framework, respecting participant values even when they differ from your own.
- Perform additional duties in line with the role as required.

Qualifications and Experience

- Certificate IV in Mental Health and Mental Health First Aid or 2 years work experience working within psycho‑social/mental health work environment and happy to work towards gaining a Certificate IV in Mental Health.
- Prior experience as a support worker in mental health‑focused environments, community outreach, or residential settings. Desired: 2 years relevant mental health industry experience.
- Strong skills in conducting and updating risk assessments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- In‑depth knowledge of the NDIS, including operational guidelines and effective utilisation of NDIS packages for participants.
- Current driver's licence, access to a car, NDIS worker screening clearance, NSW Working with Children Check, and First Aid and CPR certification.
