Tasmanian Independent Retailers (TIR) is looking for an experienced retail operations leader to join our team as Head of Member Services, on a full-time, permanent basis. Reporting directly to the CEO, and leading our Area Manager and Development Team functions, you'll be the key link between our members, our field teams and the wider TIR business — ensuring independent retailers across Tasmania get practical, coordinated support that helps them run stronger stores.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, coach and support our Area Manager team to provide consistent, practical and trusted support to members across the state
Mentor and grow the capability of our Area Manager team, with the opportunity to help build their skills toward future Business Development Manager roles
Lead the Development Team on store refits, renovations, equipment, signage and new store projects
Act as the primary escalation point for member service matters requiring senior judgement, coordination or CEO awareness
Oversee the Operational Excellence Program and Food Safety Audit performance across the IGA network, including OEP Silver minimum and FSA 85% minimum compliance
Oversee retailer growth and sustainability initiatives,
including IGA Training Academy and REFSS support, and prioritise fresh food category performance across the network
Coordinate support across Member Services, Development, Merchandise, IT, Finance, SIW and Metcash to deliver one aligned TIR support function
Support the CEO with clear advice on member issues, network risks, development opportunities and matters requiring Board consideration
Use reporting, dashboards and field intelligence to identify trends, emerging risks and opportunities to improve member outcomes
Build trusted relationships with independent retailers, maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professional neutrality
Contribute to and manage budgets relevant to the Member Services and Development functions
About You:
Strong understanding of independent retail, supermarket operations and member-based business models
Demonstrated ability to lead field-based teams and technical support functions
Commercial judgement and the ability to balance member support, brand protection, risk management and practical business outcomes
Financial acumen, including budget management and reporting, and strategic planning skills at a leadership-team level
Strong relationship skills, including listening, discretion,
confidentiality and qualified neutrality
Strong understanding of business development principles, with the ability to lead by example and mentor others in this space
Ability to interpret operational data, audit results and dashboard trends to guide action
Project coordination capability, particularly in store development, renovations, signage or retail improvement activity
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief the CEO and prepare decision-ready information
Strong, proven leadership skills
Current driver's licence, with willingness to travel across Tasmania
