Founded in 2002, Knog is a Melbourne design brand creating urban-flavoured tech for the road, trail, and outdoors. Urban to Knog is an attitude rather than a geography, representing up-to-date, progressive, design-driven, and daring products. Despite their cycling heritage, Knog's products are not limited to the city or bikes, but aim to sprinkle urban flavor across cycling and outdoor gear.
Our Electronics Engineering team works across the full product lifecycle, collaborating closely with firmware, mechanical and industrial design, and production, to bring new products to life.
The role
We're looking for an Electronics Engineer who can contribute broadly across hardware design, testing, compliance and emerging product categories — working within a cross-disciplinary team that spans electronics, firmware, mechanical design and industrial design.
This is a hands-on role with real breadth. You'll be involved in developing products from early concept through to factory mass production, with the potential to shape how we approach new technology areas such as BT, Radar and GPS/cellular tracking — both under the Knog brand and our ungone tracker range.
What you'll work on
Hardware and testing
- Design verification and production testing for our range of bike lights — low power evaluation, runtime, LED driver efficiency, brightness, USB charging and optics pre-testing
- In-house testing with a focus on finding failure modes not captured in standard DVP processes, and driving improvements in test efficiency.
- Review of factory DVT results, with interpretation and recommended remedial actions where needed.
- Proof-of-concept prototyping during early-stage product development
Design and documentation
- Preparing and maintaining electronics and firmware specification, DVP and production test documents for factory engineering teams
- Managing document versions across outgoing specs and incoming factory engineering documents
- Supporting compliance work including EMC, CE Red, Cyber Resilience Act requirements, battery directive tasks and battery certification records
BLE and connected products
- Cybersecurity analysis
- RF performance and range testing
- Firmware and app validation testing
- Collaborating with marketing and customer support on user experience and data analysis
What we're looking for
- A degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, with 3+ years of industry experience
- Solid hands-on experience with embedded hardware — PCB design, component selection, bring-up and testing
- Confidence working independently and driving tasks through to completion.
- Experience with BLE or RF systems, or genuine interest in building that expertise
- Familiarity with design verification and production test processes, ideally in a consumer electronics context
- Comfort with Python or similar scripting for simulation, test automation or data analysis
- Strong written communication for technical documentation released to factory engineering teams
- Experience working with offshore manufacturers is an advantage
- Interest in emerging areas — radar, vision systems, cellular/GPS — and enthusiasm for learning new technologies as our product range grows
