South Coast Women's Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service

Two year fixed term contract. Full-time 35hrs per week (Nowra)

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Southern Women’s Group (SWG) Inc is a not-for-profit community service based on the South Coast of NSW. We are a feminist-based organisation, and our vision is to ensure that all women are safe, respected, empowered and supported to flourish.

SWG Inc provides auspice for the South Coast Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (SCWDVCAS) through NSW Legal Aid. It is the Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service for the Nowra, Milton, Eden, Bega, Moruya, Narooma and Batemans Bay Local Courts. Our highly skilled and professional staff provide trauma-informed, client centered and culturally safe support to clients.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Justice System Navigator (JSN) to support women, people who identify as women, and non-binary people who have experienced sexual assault.

Based within the Nowra police station, you will work alongside Police and specialist services to provide advocacy, information, referrals and support throughout the investigative and legal system process. This is a unique opportunity to help victim-survivors navigate the justice system and access the services they need.

- Providing information, support, advocacy and referrals to victim-survivors of sexual violence.
- Assisting clients to understand police investigations, court processes and available support options.
- Undertaking safety planning and risk assessment.
- Supporting clients to access Victims Services NSW programs, including counselling and financial assistance.
- Building robust collaborative relationships with Police,



WDVCAS staff and specialist sexual assault services.
- Coordinating referrals to legal, health, housing, counselling and community support services.
- Participating in training, stakeholder engagement, service development and pilot evaluation activities.
- Maintaining accurate records, collecting required data and fulfilling reporting requirements.
- Delivering services in accordance with relevant policies, guidelines and information-sharing protocols.

Selection Criteria

- Relevant qualificationsin Social Work, Community Services, Psychology or a related discipline.

- Demonstrated experience supporting women and victim-survivors of sexual violence, with a strong understanding of trauma-informed and client-centred practice.

- Sound knowledge of the dynamics, complexities and legal and social impacts of sexual violence.

- Demonstrated understanding of the justice response to sexual violence, including police investigations, court processes, ADVOs, criminal proceedings, victim support services and related legal matters.

- Highly developed communication, advocacy, negotiation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with police, community services and other stakeholders.

- Knowledge of local support services and referral pathways, and the ability to assist clients with safety planning and access to appropriate legal, social and wellbeing supports.

- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records and deliver services in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and service delivery frameworks.

- Current Working with Children Check and the ability to obtain and maintain relevant NSW Police Force clearances.
