About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Workshop Manager / Foreman to lead our workshop team and ensure the safe, effective and profitable operation of our manufacturing facility. This role requires a confident leader who can build a high‑performing team while holding people accountable for their performance, behaviour and attendance. You will lead from the front, set clear expectations and address issues promptly, fairly and consistently. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Estimating and Sales, you will be responsible for delivering production outcomes while fostering a culture of safety, quality, accountability and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor and develop workshop employees.
Plan, coordinate and supervise daily workshop activities.
Allocate labour and resources to meet production schedules.
Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
Monitor productivity and labour performance against targets.
Conduct daily toolbox meetings and communicate production priorities.
Manage employee performance through regular feedback, coaching and development.
Address performance, behavioural and attendance issues in a timely, professional and consistent manner, including conducting formal performance management and disciplinary discussions where required.
Ensure company policies, procedures and safety standards are consistently followed.
Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions where necessary.
Coordinate materials, equipment and subcontractors.
Work closely with Engineering, Estimating and Operations to resolve production issues.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the workshop.
Maintain a clean, organised and well‑managed workplace.
About You
You are an experienced manufacturing leader who is confident making decisions, setting standards and managing difficult conversations when required. You can motivate your team while also ensuring accountability and maintaining a respectful workplace.
You will ideally have
Previous experience as a Workshop Manager, Foreman or Leading Hand in manufacturing or heavy engineering.
Demonstrated experience managing employee performance and conducting disciplinary processes.
Strong leadership, communication and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to build respect while maintaining accountability.
Sound understanding of workplace relations, safety and HR policies.
Ability to read engineering drawings and understand manufacturing processes.
Strong planning and organisational skills.
Trade qualification in Fabrication, Fitting & Turning, Machining or a related field (preferred).
