Marine Services Asia Pacific

Melbourne

Marine Services Asia Pacific is a trusted provider of commercial maritime and subsea solutions with operations across Australia and the Asia Pacific region. With more than three decades of experience, we specialise in vessel supply, crew transfer operations, dive support, offshore projects, and vessel maintenance. Our diverse fleet supports a wide range of marine operations, backed by highly skilled maritime professionals committed to safety, reliability, and efficiency.

The Role

We're looking for an experienced Marine Fleet Engineer to oversee engineering performance and maintenance across our fleet. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll coordinate a team of vessel-specific engineers to deliver maintenance work, take ownership of the Planned Maintenance System and compliance across all vessels, and serve onboard as Chief Engineer as operationally required. As our operations are nationwide and expanding internationally, this role may involve regular travel between vessel locations, however the right candidate will be based primiarly from our Victorian base in Dromana.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee engineering performance and general maintenance of all systems across the fleet
- Coordinate and direct a team of vessel-specific engineers to deliver maintenance work
- Own and maintain the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and ensure ongoing AMSA, MCI, and Class compliance across all vessels
- Serve as Chief Engineer aboard vessels as operationally required
- Plan and manage the maintenance and repair budget; coordinate dry-docking and major refits
- Engage and manage specialist contractors for work beyond reasonable in-house scope or competency
- Work with the Operations Manager and Vessel Engineers to maintain accurate records across the fleet — including serial numbers, part numbers, contractor contacts, maintenance schedules, operating data, fluid grades, defect resolution tracking, and service intervals — and to ensure up-to-date parts inventories and economical sourcing of parts,

supplementing our digital safety management system
- Mentor and develop vessel engineers to build technical capability across the team

About You

You bring strong fleet engineering experience and a mechanical background broad enough to cover a genuinely diverse range of vessels and equipment, including:

- Strong mechanical background/experience working with: Detroit, Caterpillar, Yanmar, Cummins, and Perkins diesel engines
- Deck & lifting equipment: hydraulic cranes, A-frames, anchor handling and deck winches, and associated hydraulic systems
- Complex Vessel Electrical systems including DC/AC distribution, switchboards, and auxiliary power systems and electrical fault-finding

You’ll also need:

- Minimum qualification: MED 1 or higher
- STCW95 (Certificate of Safety Training) highly desirable
- Minimum 5 years' experience in fleet engineering or fleet management
- Trade background as a diesel fitter or diesel mechanic desirable, though we place equal weight on genuine hands‑on experience solving mechanical and technical issues at sea — not just formal qualifications
- Comfortable using everyday digital tools such as Excel for record-keeping, and happy to pick up our digital safety management system
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly between vessel locations across Australia and overseas
- Ability to lead, coordinate, and develop a team of vessel engineers
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence liaising across internal and external stakeholders
- Valuable problem-solving and troubleshooting ability under operational pressure

This is a full time permanent role based on an average of 38–40 hours per week, recognising that workload will vary with operational demand — busier periods while supporting vessel deployments or charters, offset by lighter periods at other times.

Be careful - Don’t provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad .
