Darebin City Council is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Business Partner to join our Financial Planning & Analysis team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with senior leaders across the organisation, providing financial insight, analysis and strategic advice that supports service delivery and community outcomes. As a trusted advisor, you will help managers understand financial performance, develop budgets, identify opportunities and make informed decisions that deliver value for the community.
About the role:
Reporting to the Coordinator Financial Planning & Analysis, you will be the dedicated finance partner for an assigned portfolio, supporting leaders through budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial decision-making. You will play a key role in strengthening financial literacy, transparency & accountability, improving financial performance and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across Council.
You will:
- Deliver high-quality financial business partnering and advisory services to managers and service leaders.
- Coordinate and support annual budget development and planning processes.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, forecasts and variance analyses.
- Identify & detect financial risks, trends and opportunities and provide practical recommendations.
- Lead and support quarterly financial reviews.
- Build financial capability across the organisation through coaching and guidance.
- Contribute to improvements in financial systems, reporting and business partnering frameworks.
About you:
You are a collaborative and proactive finance professional who enjoys influencing outcomes and building robust relationships with stakeholders.
You combine strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
To be successful, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in finance business partnering, management accounting or financial analysis.
- Strong skills in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and variance analysis.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel capability and experience working with financial management systems.
- The ability to develop trusted relationships and provide credible financial advice.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
The following would be highly regarded:
- CPA or CA qualification (or progress towards completion).
- Experience within local government or the public sector.
- Knowledge of Victorian local government financial reporting requirements.
