Working within the Northern Territory's principal tertiary referral service, you will gain exposure to an exceptionally diverse and challenging caseload while enjoying a lifestyle unlike anywhere else in Australia. The Opportunity
Several full-time positions are available for fixed-term contracts of up to two years.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Delivering high-quality anaesthetic care across a broad range of surgical specialties
- Providing perioperative and acute pain management services
- Participating in emergency and after-hours anaesthetic rosters
- Supporting multidisciplinary perioperative care pathways
- Contributing to clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement initiatives
- Teaching, mentoring and supervising junior medical staff and trainees
- Assisting in the ongoing development of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine services across the Territory
Work Across Two Modern Hospitals
Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH)
Royal Darwin Hospital is the Northern Territory's major tertiary referral centre and serves patients across:
- Darwin and the Top End
- Remote Northern Territory communities
- Western Australia border regions
- South-East Asia retrieval and referral networks
RDH is recognised nationally as Australia's National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre and provides advanced services across all major specialties.
Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH)
Palmerston Regional Hospital complements the tertiary services at RDH and provides:
- Elective surgery
- Perioperative care
- Specialist outpatient services
- Modern procedural facilities
Together, the two hospitals provide a comprehensive and highly varied anaesthetic practice environment.

Total Package Value Up to $552,403 per annum

Requirements Applicants Must Possess
- Fellowship of the Australian and Current Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent recognised specialist qualification
- Specialist Registration with AHPRA, or eligibility for registration
- Commitment to high-quality patient care and multidisciplinary teamwork
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within culturally diverse environments
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities or a commitment to improving Indigenous health outcomes will be highly regarded.
