The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Shift Manager to join our Melbourne operation. Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager this is a hands-on dynamic leadership role managing our stevedoring workforce. You will be a natural people leader with experience and strong focus on people management, safety and continuous business improvement. You will combine your passion and knowledge to develop and inspire team members, building capability, driving accountability, and fostering a positive, high-performing workplace in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

About the Position

The Shift Manager will be responsible for but not limited to the below:

Plan, organise and deliver on the safe and efficient loading and unloading of freight from vessels.

Lead, motivate and direct employees to perform their duties in accordance with LINX’s safety and operational standards.

Manage and communicate work instructions, policies and procedures to the workforce, ensuring alignment and compliance with the LINX Melbourne Enterprise Agreement 2026.

Allocate labour and machinery as required to facilitate a cost effective and efficient operation per shift.

Oversee and drive shift performance and continuous improvement across our workforce.

Manage and drive a strong safety culture including conducting toolboxes,



safety observations and recommending corrective actions.

Due to shipping, hours are irregular and shifts will vary from day to day to suit shipping schedules and business requirements.

About Your Experience

Proven, successful supervisory capability in a logistics or similar industry.

Experience working within a highly unionised industrial environment, managing diverse work teams.

Able to work an irregular roster that includes days, afternoons, nights and weekends.

Strong people management and communication skills.

Able to work autonomously in a fast-paced high-pressure workplace.

Able to meet strict deadlines with excellent time management skills.

Experience in planning, problem solving and reporting.

Mid-level computer skills with proficiencies in Excel, Word and Outlook.

Robust focus on safety and able to uphold LINX’s high safety standards and compliance.
