Miller Recruitment is looking for a Finance Director for our client in Marrickville, NSW. Our client is a Recruitment & Equipment Hire Business that operates nationally. They are seeking a commercially minded, strategic Finance Director to join their executive leadership team and drive their long-term financial strategy.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Finance Director will oversee all financial operations, risk management, and commercial planning. In the recruitment & labour sector, balancing rapid growth with tight working capital management and margin protection is critical. We are looking for a financial leader who thrives in a high-volume, dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Financial Leadership : Partner with the executive team to drive scalable growth, capital allocation, and long-term business strategy.
- Cash Flow & Working Capital : Lead robust short and long-term cash flow forecasting to support high-volume weekly payroll cycles and manage debtor facility management.
- Commercial Strategy & Margins : Partner with business development teams to evaluate contract pricing, review client margins, and structure profitable commercial deals.
- Financial Control & Board Reporting : Oversee month-end/year-end closing, management reporting, budgeting, rolling forecasts, and board presentations.
- Payroll & Statutory Compliance : Ensure strict compliance with Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, Superannuation, Payroll Tax, and Single Touch Payroll (STP).
- Risk Management & Insurance :
Oversee internal control frameworks, audit processes, corporate risk, and statutory insurances, specifically Workers’ Compensation premiums and wage declarations.
- Team Leadership : Manage, mentor, and build a high-performing finance and payroll team.
- Rental Equipment Management & Stock Inventory : Manage financial planning and inventory control of rental machinery and safety equipment
About You
Qualifications : CA or CPA qualification with a relevant degree in Accounting or Finance. Industry Experience: Proven track record as a Finance Director, CFO, or Head of Finance, ideally within labour, recruitment, or fast-paced outsourced services. First or second move from a Big 4 or mid-tier Chartered Accounting firm will be highly regarded.
Commercial Expertise : Demonstrated experience managing high-volume payroll environments, working capital lines/debtor finance, and client contract negotiations.
Technical Skills : Advanced financial modelling skills and experience with up-to-date ERP, payroll, and CRM systems (e.g., JobAdder, FastTrack, Xero, MYOB PayGlobal, or similar).
Leadership Style : Strong communicator who can translate complex financial data into actionable business insights for non-financial leaders. Hands-on, collaborative and eager to grow into a broader executive leadership role.
Inventory and Fleet Control Experience : The client owns a warehouse housing machinery and safety equipment - inventory control and management of fleet and stock experience beneficial.
