Cybersecurity Engineer - Bluestaq Australia

Location - Canberra | In office, with occasional remote flexibility subject to project requirements

About the Role

As Cybersecurity Engineer , you will lead the design,implementationand oversight of cybersecurity architecture fordefencegrade systems across networks, platforms andon-premiseenvironments. You will work across engineering and operations teams to ensure the integrity,complianceand resilience of secure systemsin accordance withAustralian standards and mission critical needs.

You will be instrumental in securing andmaintainingan Authority to Operate (ATO) by implementing technical controls, conducting riskassessmentsand ensuring compliance with the Australian ISM, IRAP (Infosec Registered Assessors Program) and otherdefenceframeworks.

Reporting to theBluestaqAustralia leadership team, you will:

- Define and enforce cybersecurity standards in alignment with NIST, ISO/IEC27001 and the ASD Essential Eight
- Support the preparation and submission of cybersecurity artifactsrequiredfor ATO processes, including security documentation, riskregistersand evidence packages




- Implement andvalidatetechnical security controls in classified environments aligned with Australian ISM and ACSC requirements
- Develop and deploy security tools to address vulnerabilities, automatetasksand strengthendefences
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, vulnerabilitytestingand security audits
- Hands-on configuration and monitoring of security tools,analysinglogs and security events to detect, assess and respond to threats
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement secure authentication,encryptionand access control solutions
- Evaluate and integrate emerging cybersecurity technologies to enhance infrastructure protection
- Clearly articulate security strategies and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support secure solution delivery
- Provide expert level troubleshooting and resolution of complex security challenges

About You

You must be willing to embrace our core values of Ownership, Curiosity,Talentand Trust and in addition have:

- 6-8+ years of cybersecurity experience, preferably indefence, government or critical infrastructure sectors
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge gained through experience
- CISSP certification (or equivalent), plus ASDrecognisedcybersecurity credentials
- Strongexpertisein Linux systems, networkingsecurityand cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Hands-on experience with security automation and monitoring tools,



including Ansible, SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, SO2), antivirus (AV) solutions, ACAS,Anchore, SonarQube, and related security technologies
- Demonstrated ability to lead cybersecurity initiatives, influence architecturedecisionsand communicate effectively with stakeholders
- Willingness to travel within Australia to customer and partner locations, including secure government ordefencesites, and occasional travel toBluestaqoffices in the United States for collaboration or project work.
- You must also be an Australian citizen, currently holding and able tomaintainAustralian Government NV2 security clearance.

Salary Range (CO)

$170,000 - $205,000 AUD
