The occupant of this position is a member of the Operational Technology and Engineering (OTE) Section. The role of the OTE Section is to ensure the development, delivery and operation of measurement equipment and systems meet the Bureau's performance and functional requirements. This includes the following sensors/networks:

- Radar and Wind Profilers
- Automatic Weather Stations
- Flood Warning

Operational Technology and Engineering is made up of a diverse team of specialists and engineers responsible for the development and design of engineering and technological solutions, incorporating level three support, on a range of technologies spanning from radars to rainfall stations, 2 drifting buoys to dedicated observations and satellites to ships at sea in order to meet business needs.

The Radar Technical Officer will be responsible under supervision to provide technical services to ensure that the Leonardo radar fleet used by the Bureau of Meteorology are supportable for operations. This may include:

- Identifying obsolescence and performance risks
- Developing, testing and evaluating solutions to technical problems
- Working with vendors, maintenance staff and other stakeholders to support ongoing operation

To succeed in this role, you will have:

- Experience in maintenance and support of Radio Frequency (RF) systems in an operational environment

Role responsibilities

1. A demonstrated understanding of all aspects of radar network equipment, including operation, maintenance, and interaction/communication with other Bureau systems, particularly data ingestion and external control.
2. Ability to provide phone and remote support to field staff to assist them in maintenance and trouble shooting
3.



Capability to manage Operational/Technical Staff to keep the Fielded Equipment maintained and otherwise operating to meet User Requirements.
4. Translate and apply high level goals and outcomes, identifying issues and uncertainties and incorporate these into advice, planning, decision making and implementation.
5. Take an active role in the generation and application of procedures to further improve the radar system calibration and operation.
6. Availability to undertake extensive domestic travel (up to 25%) to facilitate onsite installation, upgrade and return to service of Radar equipment.
7. Work collaboratively, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and influence the work of teams.
8. Exercise Financial Delegation in accordance with Bureau Policies including holding a Commonwealth Government Credit Card.
9. Motivate and Mentor technical staff, aligning complementary skills and allocate resources in a manner that delivers results.
10. Evaluate and ensure that the delivered equipment and systems meet requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
11. Evaluate activities to understand critical factors for success and engage in continuous improvement and innovation.
12. Lead and ensure safety aspects of Bureau equipment and systems are considered and incorporated.
13. Participate in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of products and services and the ongoing development, implementation and continual improvement of the quality management system to achieve and maintain the ongoing certification of compliance with the ISO 9001 quality management Standard.
14. Complying with all bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
