About This Role
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is recruiting Licensing Compliance and Enforcement officers that will carry out monitoring, inspections and investigations to ensure Victorian tobacco stores are complying with the law.
- Join the unit overseeing the Tobacco Licensing Scheme and monitoring compliance across Victoria.
- Earn $100,894 to $114,476 per year plus super.
- Work in teams on the ground, using communication and negotiation skills to get great results.
- Role based in the CBD with fieldwork throughout Victoria.
What You Will Do
As a licensing compliance and enforcement officer, you will:
- Monitor, inspect and investigate premises to ensure compliance with the Tobacco Act 1987.
- Work in teams when exercising legislative powers, including exercising search warrants.
- Prepare reports, briefs of evidence and other documents to support investigations and potential court action.
About You
You must have strong communication skills to thrive in this role. You will need to ask the right questions and confidently carry out inspections applying discretion, sound judgement and a safety-first mindset.
You must have a current Victorian driver's licence. Qualifications in law, investigations or compliance are desirable, but relevant experience will also be considered.
Please note: successful applicants will need to attend 2 weeks of in-person training.

- Great negotiation skills to gain cooperation from people.
- The ability to work well in teams supporting and backing each other in the field.
- Experience in regulatory or compliance work, with the awareness to spot issues and follow through with appropriate action, while adhering to health and safety guidelines.
