Visiting Medical Officer – Voluntary Assisted Dying Practitioner – SESLHD – Quinquennium 1 July 2027 to 30 June 2032

Applications are invited for appointment as a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Service for the Quinquennium period: 1 July 2027 to 30 June 2032. An eligibility list may be created for vacancies on an ongoing basis following this advertisement.

The VMO will provide expert medical assessment and management of people requesting access to Voluntary Assisted Dying under the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022 as part of the SESLHD VAD Liaison Service. The VMO is part of a pool of specialists fulfilling Coordinating, Consulting, and/or Administering Practitioner roles within the VAD process.

Role and Responsibilities

• Provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the VAD service.

• Participate in Coordinating or Consulting roles as a medical practitioner with specialist registration or general registration and at least 10 years of practice.

• Participate in Administering Practitioner roles as a medical practitioner with specialist registration or general registration and at least 5 years of practice; overseas-trained specialists are encouraged to apply.

• Work within the SESLHD VAD Liaison Service framework and support multidisciplinary care.

Qualifications and Requirements

- MBBS or equivalent,



currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia and/or at least 10 years of practice as a General Registration holder.
- Demonstrated strong communication and teamwork skills, commitment to clinical quality and patient safety, and knowledge of NSW Health Policy and the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022.
- Commitment to continuing professional development and evidence of participation in continuing medical education.
- Ability to work effectively with medical and other health services colleagues in a multidisciplinary team across multiple sites.
