Design Engineer at Wollondilly Shire Council. About the role We are looking for a talented Civil Design Engineer to become part of our dedicated team in Picton. This full-time position is designed to last for a period of 24 months, providing an exciting opportunity to engage in essential transport and drainage projects that significantly improve the infrastructure of our community. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring that our engineering projects are executed with high standards of quality and effectiveness.

What you'll do

- Participate actively in the design and execution of transport and drainage infrastructure initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that all projects align with community requirements and comply with relevant regulations.
- Conduct detailed assessments and evaluations of existing infrastructure to identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including plans, specifications, and reports.
- Engage with stakeholders, including local authorities and community members, to gather input and feedback on project designs.
- Utilize advanced engineering software to create and analyze design models.
- Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and team members.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements to incorporate best practices into design processes.
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications and funding proposals for infrastructure projects.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
- Contribute to the development of engineering policies and procedures that enhance operational efficiency.

Requirements

- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is essential.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in civil design engineering is required.




- Proficiency in engineering design software, particularly AutoCAD, is necessary.
- A solid understanding of engineering principles, local regulations, and industry standards is crucial.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex engineering challenges.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- A valid driver's license is preferred for site visits and inspections.
- Familiarity with environmental sustainability practices in engineering design is advantageous.

Nice to have

- Experience with project management tools and methodologies would be beneficial.
- Previous involvement in community engagement processes related to engineering projects is a plus.
- Knowledge of advanced drainage design techniques and transport engineering standards is desirable.
- Certification or membership in a relevant professional engineering organization is a plus.
- Experience working with local government or public sector projects is advantageous.

Skills & tools

- Proficient in AutoCAD and other engineering design software applications.
- Familiarity with project management software to track project milestones and deliverables.
- Knowledge of hydraulic modeling software for drainage design is beneficial.
- Strong skills in data analysis and interpretation to inform design decisions.
- Competence in using Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting.

- The starting salary for this position is $119,073.24, complemented by a 12% superannuation contribution.
- The role involves a standard 35-hour work week, with flexible work arrangements available, including the possibility of remote work.
