POSITION DESCRIPTION

Respiratory & Sleep Scientist

Permanent Part Time 24.75 hours per week (8:15am to 5pm Monday Tuesday and Wednesday)

ORGANISATION

Melbourne Respiratory & Sleep Services is a specialist respiratory consultation and offers a range of medical diagnostic procedures. Our Respiratory Laboratory's purpose is to provide diagnostic lung function testing and home sleep studies to referred outpatients and to the wider community.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

This position involves conducting a range of both routine and more specialized tests of respiratory function and performing sleep study setups. You will apply professional knowledge, skills, and quality assurance methods to ensure optimal measurement accuracy and consistency in the provision of the highest standards in patient care.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

- Ensure correct functioning of laboratory equipment by performing calibration and maintenance procedures.
- Perform requested tests ensuring accuracy of measurements.
- Analyse relevant test results and prepare associated reports.
- Perform Sleep Study setups.
- Ensure confidentiality of both patients, employees, policies and business dealings.
- Highest levels of patient care and safety must be achieved at all times.




- Keep abreast of new developments in respiratory technology and physiology.
- Undertake clerical duties associated with the operation of the laboratory.
- Cover for leave on occasion when required.
- Remuneration will be based on experience.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

- Previous experience in the performance of routine respiratory function testing
- Training will be provided to the right candidate.
- Science degree or higher in a related discipline.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients.
- Ability to think analytically and maintaining precision and accuracy.
- Competency in a Microsoft Windows based computer environment including Microsoft Office skills.

DESIRABLE

- Familiarity with more complex tests of respiratory function such as body plethysmography, bronchial provocation testing, maximal respiratory pressures, haemoglobin skin prick testing, etc.
- Experience with Medisoft lung function testing instrumentation
- Experience with home sleep study setups
