Manager Occupational Health, Safety & Emergency Management
Few OHS roles in regional health offer the opportunity to truly shape and strengthen a safety culture, this one does.
Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) is a three-campus regional health service and one of the largest employers in the Central Goldfields region. With safety and wellbeing a genuine organisational priority, this leadership role offers the chance to influence strategy, systems, and culture across the service.
The Opportunity
Safety & Risk Leadership
Lead MDHS’s occupational health and safety function end-to-end, overseeing incident investigations, hazard management, audit programs, compliance, and reporting to the OHS Committee and Executive team. You’ll provide guidance and support to Health and Safety Representatives across all campuses, helping embed safety into everyday practice, not just policy.
Emergency Planning & Response
Chair the Emergency Planning Committee and lead the development, testing, and continuous improvement of emergency management plans across scenarios including fire, flood, pandemic, mass casualty, and infrastructure failure. You’ll act as the key liaison with external emergency agencies and stakeholders.
Injury Management & Return to Work
Oversee workers compensation and injury management programs,
supported by a dedicated Return to Work Business Partner. You’ll monitor claims performance, recovery outcomes, and legislative compliance, while driving best-practice approaches to employee wellbeing and return-to-work processes.
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in an OHS and/or emergency management leadership role
- Strong knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation, WorkSafe requirements, and return-to-work frameworks
- Demonstrated experience in complex industrial settings
- The ability to build credibility and influence across clinical, operational, and executive teams
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
Why Join MDHS?
MDHS’s values - genuine, respect, excellence, accountability, and togetherness all underpin the organisation’s approach to culture, leadership, and care.
This role brings together safety, emergency management, and injury management within one strategic function, with direct access to Executive leadership. In a regional health service, the impact of solid leadership in this space is tangible - supporting staff wellbeing, service continuity, and the broader community.
