Aspire Academics is an in-person tutoring centre in Truganina supporting students from Years 3 to 12. We help students build genuine understanding, strong study habits and the confidence to do their best. We are raising the bar in our VCE English program and are looking for an outstanding, experienced VCE English teacher to lead it.
About the role
You will teach and prepare students for VCE English Units 1 to 4, covering text response, comparative, argument analysis and persuasive writing, SAC preparation and exam technique. You will work with both small groups and larger classes and set the standard for English at Aspire. Hours are flexible: sessional or ongoing part-time, including after-school and weekend sessions.
What we are looking for (essential)
- Proven experience teaching or tutoring VCE English (Units 1 to 4)
- A strong personal result in VCE English: a high study score, or an equivalent tertiary achievement in English or Literature
- Excellent spoken communication: articulate, confident and engaging in front of a class
- The ability to teach and manage larger groups, not only one to one
- A strong command of the current VCAA English study design, including text response,
comparative and argument analysis
- Reliability, professionalism and a real ability to lift students' writing
- Full working rights in Australia
- A valid Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one before commencing)
Desirable
- A VCE English study score of 45 or above (or 40 or above with strong teaching experience)
- Experience preparing students for VCE English SACs and exams
- Having attended a Victorian selective-entry high school (such as Melbourne High, Mac.Robertson Girls', Nossal or Suzanne Cory) is a plus
- Prior classroom teaching experience
