We're Not Just a Services Business. We're a Data Ecosystem.
- Every day, thousands of decisions are made across our network.
- Some are driven by instinct.
- The best ones are powered by insight.
- Our foundation is data. Not data for the sake of dashboards.
Data that tells stories. Reveals opportunities. Predicts what's next. Creates confidence. Builds stronger businesses.
We're creating an ecosystem where trusted information flows effortlessly across our members, suppliers and teams, transforming complexity into clarity and helping everyone make better decisions.
But technology alone doesn't create value.
That's why our culture is built around collaboration over hierarchy, curiosity over certainty and influence over authority.
You’ll work alongside people who openly share ideas, challenge thinking respectfully and genuinely want each other to succeed. We believe the best solutions are rarely created by one person—they're built together.
We're a business where conversations don't stop when the meeting ends and relationships don't end when the workday does.
About the role
We are looking for an Analytics Engineer - Semantic Layer & AI Data Products to help design, build and operationalize NARTA's governed semantic layer in Snowflake.
This is a hands‑on role focused on analytics engineering, semantic modelling, business metric definition, data quality, documentation and AI‑ready data products. You will use Snowflake, dbt and modern data modelling practices to create trusted, reusable business definitions for Tableau, CoWork, CoCo and Snowflake Cortex Agents.
This role is not intended to be a blended Data Architect, Snowflake Platform Lead, Tableau Specialist, Azure Data Factory Engineer or Governance Lead. Instead, it is focused on the specific capability gap we are looking to fill building high‑quality semantic models and governed data products that make Snowflake data more consistent, trusted and usable across reporting, analytics and AI use cases.
You will work closely with NARTA's existing data, platform, Tableau and governance capabilities, helping strengthen the way business meaning is designed, documented and reused across the organisation.
What you’ll be doing
- Design and maintain governed semantic models in Snowflake that provide consistent and reusable business definitions.
- Work with business stakeholders to define key metrics, dimensions, hierarchies and commercial rules.
- Build,
test and maintain dbt models across staging, intermediate, mart and semantic‑layer structures.
- Develop high‑quality Snowflake SQL models using dimensional modelling and analytics engineering best practice.
- Implement data quality checks, documentation and lineage to improve confidence in critical business data.
- Create trusted, well‑documented data products for Tableau, CoWork, CoCo and Cortex Agents.
- Help prepare curated Snowflake datasets for AI and agentic analytics use cases.
- Translate business requirements into practical, governed and reusable data‑product designs.
- Collaborate with Tableau, Azure Data Factory, platform and governance stakeholders without owning those areas end‑to‑end.
- Support disciplined development practices using Git, CI/CD and controlled release workflows.
Why you’ll love it here
Because you’ll be part of a business that believes:
Data is one of our greatest strategic assets.
Collaboration creates better outcomes than competition.
Great ideas can come from anyone.
Commercial value is created through trusted relationships.
Innovation happens when people are empowered to experiment.
Learning never stops.
Success is measured by the value we create for others.
Thrive as hands‑on analytics engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of business meaning, data modelling and modern cloud analytics.
Enjoy and are comfortable speaking with business stakeholders, understanding commercial concepts and turning them into robust Snowflake and dbt models.
You care about trusted definitions, data quality, documentation and reuse, but you are also pragmatic and delivery focused.
This isn’t just somewhere to build data products, it’s somewhere to build the future of how an industry thinks, collaborates and grows.
What we’re looking for
- Proven hands‑on experience in analytics engineering, data modelling or a closely related data role.
- Solid practical experience with Snowflake and SQL.
- Experience building and maintaining dbt models in a production environment.
- Strong understanding of semantic modelling, dimensional modelling and business metric definition.
- Experience creating reusable, documented and trusted data models for reporting or analytics use cases.
- Practical experience with data quality testing, documentation and lineage.
- Familiarity with Git‑based development workflows and CI/CD release discipline.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and business translation skills.
- The ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Experience supporting Tableau or Tableau Cloud as a downstream consumption layer.
- Familiarity with Azure Data Factory or cloud‑based data integration patterns.
- Exposure to Snowflake Cortex, Cortex Agents or other AI‑enabled analytics capabilities.
- Experience designing data products for self‑service analytics, AI assistants or governed business consumption.
- An understanding of data governance, information security and privacy considerations.
- Experience in retail, buying groups, supplier analytics, member analytics or commercial performance reporting.
About NARTA
NARTA is one of Australia's leading retail services groups, supporting a large network of members, suppliers and business partners across the retail industry, our value is measured by the intelligence we create, the partnerships we strengthen and the commercial outcomes we enable.
Our difference is our investment in our data, analytics and AI capability, with Snowflake at the centre of our modern data platform. To enable this transformation, we are building stronger internal capability to deliver trusted, reusable and AI‑ready data products that support reporting, decision‑making and future innovation.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the next stage of NARTA's data and AI capability.
You will help build the trusted semantic foundations that allow our business to use data more consistently across Tableau reporting, internal data products and emerging AI capabilities. Your work will directly support NARTA's broader transformation into a more data‑driven and AI‑enabled organisation.
You will join a team focused on building sustainable internal capability, reducing reliance on external consultants and creating practical data products that deliver real business value.
