About QHVSG

For over 30 years, QHVSG has provided specialist care, counselling, case management, peer support and court support to the loved ones of homicide victims across Queensland.

Grounded in compassion, dignity and respect, we walk alongside our members through the aftermath of homicide—offering trauma‑informed, grief‑aware support from the earliest days of loss through complex criminal justice processes.

We work closely with Queensland Police Service (QPS), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Victim Assist Queensland (VAQ), the courts and a broad network of community services. Our Peer Supporters—people with lived experience of homicide—are central to how we build connection, belonging and hope.

About the Role

As a Family Support Coordinator , you will provide counselling and specialist case management to individuals and families who have lost a loved one to homicide. This is a frontline, relationship‑focused role where your clinical skills, emotional intelligence and judgement support people navigating grief, trauma and complex justice processes.

You will manage your own caseload, delivering counselling, advocacy, referrals and practical supports, while working closely with Peer Support and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated, person‑centred care. The role may involve outreach across Queensland and participation in court‑related support.

What You’ll Do

- Deliver case management informed by thorough needs assessment, planning and review
- Offer accurate information, advice and referrals relevant to members’ circumstances
- Provide counselling to individuals and families impacted by homicide
- Work closely with the Peer Support team to facilitate appropriate peer connections
- Provide court‑related support, including preparation, attendance and liaison as required
- Contribute to QHVSG newsletters, events and community activities as requested
- Maintain accurate, confidential electronic case notes and records in line with best practice and organisational requirements
- Produce routine reports and contribute to data collection and service outcomes
- Uphold privacy, confidentiality, organisational policies and skilled standards
- Participate in team communication and contribute to a supportive, values‑led culture
- Travel across Queensland when required (reimbursed per policies)

What You’ll Bring (Essential)

- Diploma‑level qualification (minimum) in Social Work, or Psychology
- Demonstrated experience providing counselling and case management to individuals or families
- Strong understanding of grief, trauma and complex emotional responses
- Excellent written and verbal communication and active listening skills
- Strong organisational, time‑management and problem‑solving skills




- Intermediate–advanced IT skills (Microsoft 365 and electronic case note systems)
- Current Australian driver license and registered car
- Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)

Desirable

- Experience supporting people impacted by violent crime or traumatic loss
- Understanding of peer support models and lived‑experience integration
- Experience working with courts or justice‑related systems
- Experience supporting children and young people affected by trauma and grief
- Knowledge of culturally safe practice and working with diverse communities
