Job Description
We are seeking self-motivated and empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioners to join our Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service (YRRS) in Townsville on a casual basis. YRRS is a recovery-focused residential program supporting young people aged 16-21. Delivered in a safe, home-like environment, the service supports young people to develop life skills, build resilience, strengthen social connections, and increase their confidence to live independently.
As a casual Community Mental Health Practitioner, you will provide person-centred, recovery-oriented support to young people to help them work towards their wellbeing goals, develop independent living skills and routines, build confidence to live safely in the community, and strengthen their social and community connections.
This role requires flexibility to work across a 24/7 rotating roster, including weekdays, weekends, night shifts and sleepovers, based on service requirements and your availability.
Key responsibilities
- Provide recovery-focused, person-centred support to young people in a residential setting.
- Support young people to develop daily living skills, routines, confidence and independence.
- Build positive relationships that promote safety, trust, wellbeing and recovery.
- Support young people to strengthen their social and community connections.
- Apply trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approaches to support individual goals.
- Work collaboratively with young people, families, carers and internal/external services.

About the Candidate
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Youth Work, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, or other health-related field.
- Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
- Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery-oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
- A current First Aid and CPR certificate.
- Ability to provide proof of vaccination against vaccine preventable diseases or willingness to obtain required vaccinations per Queensland Health partnership.

- $40.49 - $43.42 per hour (SCHADS Level 3) + 25% casual loading
