About the role

The position of Trades Assistant forms a key component of the Progress Rail Service team primarily responsible assisting all trades personnel with the daily tasks on the production floor.

Specific responsibilities

- Assist tradesperson with machine overhauls, rewinds and repairs.
- Clean, buff and paint components and parts.
- Operate machinery, as required, in order to perform tasks, where qualified and licenced.
- Perform manual tasks as required, including safe working duties.
- Undertake, as instructed by your Team Leader, other tasks which may be incidental & peripheral to your trades assistant role.
- Workshop housekeeping tasks,

Skills and experience:

- Previous experience within a heavy maintenance, industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Crane/Doggers licence highly regarded.
- Welding experience would be advantageous but not essential.
- Proven ability to organize and prioritise tasks, be flexible and resourceful, proactive and professional in manner with a high degree of initiative.
- Previous experience and training on Locomotive freight maintenance or service activities preferred but not essential.
