The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Coffs Harbour Hospital is a Level 5 ICU accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for Foundation and Advanced Training (G6). The ICU, commissioned in late 2021, supports mixed medical and surgical critical care services.
What you’ll be doing
The position comprises six months in the ICU followed by six months in the Department of Anaesthesia at Coffs Harbour Base Hospital. You will manage critically ill patients, those at risk of deterioration, and participate in the core training program of the College of Intensive Care Medicine. Work includes diagnosing and treating severe medical, surgical, obstetric, and paediatric illnesses, and providing care for deteriorating patients both inside and outside the ICU, including intra‑hospital transport.
The primary purpose of a Trainee in Anaesthesia is to provide anaesthetic care under supervision in a complex clinical setting, extend knowledge and skills across multiple subspecialty areas, and deliver peri‑operative care, pain management, and other duties as directed.

Qualifications and Experience
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Minimum 3 months of ICU or Anaesthetic experience and demonstrated commitment to the Advanced Training Program including examinations.
- Demonstrated ability to apply excellent clinical skills, knowledge, and judgement with the capacity to work both supervised and independently within an ICU and Anaesthetic department.
- Demonstrated insight and reflective learning.
- High level of time‑management and strong interpersonal skills.
- Interest in and commitment to ongoing improvement of patient care.
