Storm Lake Middle School Athletic Coach Job DescriptionPosition Title: Middle School Athletic CoachReports To: Athletic DirectorPosition SummaryThe High School Athletic Coach plans, organizes, and supervises a high school interscholastic athletic program that supports student‑athlete development, safety, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success. The coach serves as a positive role model and complies with all district, conference, and Iowa licensure requirements.Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plan and conduct effective practices and competitions.
- Teach sport-specific skills, strategies, and rules.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and respect.
- Ensure the safety and supervision of student‑athletes at all times.
- Enforce school and district policies and athletic codes of conduct.
- Communicate effectively with student‑athletes, families, and school staff.
- Support academic expectations and eligibility requirements.
- Maintain equipment and facilities.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and career development.
- Follow all district, conference,
and state athletic association rules.Required LicensureAll coaches (paid or volunteer) must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BoEE).Minimum requirements include:
- At least 18 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent- CPR certification- NFHS concussion training- Mandatory reporter training- Completion of an approved 55‑hour coaching course (or equivalent coursework)Authorization must remain current and in good standing.Qualifications- Knowledge of the sport and coaching techniques- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills- Ability to work positively with high school students- Coaching experience preferred, but not required- Commitment to student safety and well‑beingPhysical & Work Requirements- Ability to demonstrate skills and actively supervise students- Ability to lift and manage athletic equipment
