Ascot Vale Meat & Poultry is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Apprentice Butcher to join our team in Ascot Vale, VIC 3032. This is a full-time apprenticeship position that offers an excellent opportunity to develop your craft under the guidance of experienced professionals in a dynamic, customer-focused environment. As an Apprentice Butcher, you will be at the foundation of our operations, learning the essential skills and techniques required to become a qualified tradesperson whilst contributing meaningfully to our daily business activities.
Key responsibilities
- Learning and practising proper meat handling, cutting, and butchering techniques under supervision
- Assisting with the preparation of various cuts of meat, poultry and other products to meet customer specifications and quality standards
- Maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene in accordance with relevant legislation and company protocols
- Supporting the preparation and presentation of products in display cases and for retail sale
- Assisting with stock management, including receiving, checking and storing products appropriately
- Providing friendly and professional customer service, including taking orders and providing product recommendations
- Cleaning and sanitising work areas, equipment and tools as required
- Attending training sessions and educational requirements as part of your formal apprenticeship programme
What we're looking for
- A genuine passion for butchery and the meat industry, with a willingness to learn and develop your skills
- Robust attention to detail and a commitment to food safety and hygiene standards
- Physical capability to perform manual work, including standing for extended periods and handling heavy items
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- A skilled and courteous approach to customer service
- Reliability and punctuality, with a strong work ethic
- Willingness to follow instructions and learn from experienced team members
- Sound knowledge of food safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards
- Ideally, some previous experience in a retail or hospitality environment, though not essential for the right candidate
