We are looking for one apprentice to join our Thomastown factory and learn stainless steel fabrication from the ground up.

You don’t need previous factory experience, tools or a trade background. If you turn up, listen, and take pride in getting things right, we will teach you the rest.

About us

Veitch Stainless Steel is a family-owned Australian manufacturer. We have been under the same ownership for more than 25 years, making high-quality stainless steel products for the building industry — the kind of work you walk past every day in bathrooms, hospitals, schools and commercial buildings without noticing it.

We are a small team in a clean, modern factory, using TIG welding (manual and robotic), CNC brake pressing, laser cutting and turret punching alongside traditional fabrication equipment.

What you’ll actually be doing

Your first year is about learning how the factory runs and becoming genuinely useful. You’ll start on the processes we can get you productive on quickly:

- Operating machines — CNC brake press, laser cutter and turret punch
- Setting up and running our welding robot
- Basic welding processes — tacking, fitting and preparing jobs for welding
- Deburring, linishing and finishing components
- Assembling and fitting our products
- Reading engineering drawings and working to precise measurements
- Checking your own work for quality, and keeping your area clean and safe In parallel with the training you receive at TAFE, you will develop into more complex TIG welding and stainless steel fabrication.

What we’re looking for

This is the part that matters. We can teach almost anyone to weld. We can’t teach someone to care. So we are far more interested in how you work than in what you already know:





- You show up — on time, every day, ready to go
- You listen, take direction, and ask when you’re unsure rather than guessing
- You want your work to be right, not just finished
- You’re patient and steady — stainless is unforgiving and precision matters
- You look out for your own safety and everybody else’s
- You get on with people and pull your weight in a small team
- You want to be standing here in four years holding a trade qualification

What you don’t need

- Previous factory or metals industry experience
- Welding experience
- Your own tools

You will need reliable transport to Thomastown and the right to work in Australia.
