Events & Public Programs Officer

Location: Canberra

Duration: Until June, 2027

Hourly rate: $56 - $62 per hour Our federal government client is seeking a highly organised and proactive Events & Public Programs Officer to join a energetic team responsible for delivering major public events, conferences, exhibitions and community engagement programs.

Key Details

- Coordinate and support the delivery of major events, conferences, public programs and VIP engagements.
- Manage event logistics including registrations, attendee management, room bookings, run sheets, agendas and briefing materials.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, suppliers, community organisations and service providers.
- Provide high-level administrative and coordination support to senior team members.
- Manage enquiries through shared inboxes and ensure timely responses.
- Work in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate components of events, conferences and public programs to support successful delivery.
- Liaise with stakeholders, suppliers and service providers.
- Prepare and maintain event documentation including agendas, run sheets, guest lists and briefing materials.
- Manage registrations, attendee communications, VIP visits and protocol requirements.




- Coordinate venue and room bookings, setup requirements and invoicing processes.
- Monitor booking systems and maintain accurate records and reporting.
- Respond to enquiries and manage shared inbox communications.
- Support front-of-house activities, tours and public engagement programs.
- Track event milestones and identify issues requiring attention.
- Provide administrative and coordination support to senior team members.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and future event planning initiatives.

About You:

- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Able to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
- Customer-focused with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experienced in event coordination, administration or stakeholder engagement.
- Adaptable, proactive and able to exercise sound judgement in a fast-paced environment.
