Legislative reform experience wanted!

This is a unique opportunity to join a Federal Government/APS policy team working on a nationally significant reform initiative. You will contribute to complex policy and legislative work that supports long-term government priorities and delivers benefits across Australia. Your new role
As the APS6 or EL1 Legal Policy Officer, you will provide strategic policy and legislative advice on complex issues in a dynamic and evolving environment. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support the development and implementation of policy initiatives, legislation and regulatory frameworks. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing policy positions and evidence-based advice on complex issues
- Conducting research, analysis and legal policy assessments
- Contributing to legislative and regulatory development activities
- Preparing high-quality briefing materials, reports, correspondence and presentations
- Engaging with state and territory governments, legal advisers and other Commonwealth agencies
- Building productive stakeholder relationships to progress policy outcomes
- Supporting the implementation of nationally significant reforms
- Contributing to a positive team culture and mentoring junior staff where appropriate
- Managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes within tight timeframes
What you'll need to succeed To be successful in your new role, you will demonstrate:
- Experience in policy development,
legal policy, legislation or regulatory environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written communication, including the ability to prepare briefs, ministerial advice and reports
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
- The ability to influence and collaborate across a range of organisations and levels of government
- Sound judgement and the ability to provide clear, practical advice on complex issues
- Solid organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A proactive and adaptable approach to work Tertiary qualifications in law, legal studies or a related discipline are highly regarded, as is experience supporting legislative or regulatory reform projects.
To be considered for this role, you will need to be an Australian citizen and hold a Government Security Clearance at the Baseline level or higher.
