Your Role at SJG Murdoch Hospital

As an Assistant in Nursing (AIN) at SJG Murdoch Hospital, you will support the nursing and midwifery team to deliver secure, high-quality patient care within an acute care environment. Working under the supervision, delegation and direction of a Registered Nurse/Midwife, you will perform delegated duties in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Decision-Making Framework for nursing and midwifery practice.

Working in the position of an AIN, you will undertake only those duties outlined within the approved AIN duties document and applicable duty statement, ensuring care is delivered within scope of practice and in alignment with organisational standards.

Permanent part-time and casual positions are currently available for those that are available to work 24/7 across all wards.

The Position

- General hygiene including showering, washing, bed baths, dressing and undressing

- Assist patients to the toilet or commode

- Provide and position bed pans and urinary bottles; empty, measures, record and report urine output. Record and report bowel motions

- Apply and change continence aids & pads, apply barrier creams

- Assist with mobilising patients, transfers, sitting out of bed. Use manual handling equipment such as hoists & aids. Assist patients to use mobility aids

- Ensure patient nutrition requirements are met, including assisting with menu selection and ordering

- Assist with patient meal & table set up, cutting up food, opening packages, safe positioning to facilitate eating, assisting with feeding, and provision of fluids (patients with fluid restrictions, dysphagia, modified diet/fluids or nil orally, as explicitly directed by RN/RM and only if satisfying conditions outlined above)

- Record food and/ or fluid intake where applicable, including accurate documentation of fluid balance chart

- Collect and distribute meals, drinks and refreshments and refills water jugs (outside of food service times/ routine drink rounds)

- Provide patient companionship,



surveillance and escorts patients (excluding patients with oxygen and intravenous therapy)

- Apply practical interventions and diversional therapy for cognitive impairment or behavioural problems

- Observations. Take, record and report to RN/RM

- Transport & escort patients to all departments for discharge, via any mode of transport (including bed and wheelchair), excluding patients with oxygen and intravenous therapy

- Transport equipment, supplies, specimens, blood between departments as per policy

- Maintain tidy patient rooms & areas. Makes beds & trolleys

Applications will be considered for vacancies as they arise across various wards over the next 6 months.

Working within a team environment you will have the ability to demonstrate competence and perform the skills contained within the Statement of Duties. Well-developed communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with knowledge of principles of safe manual handling, commitment to Quality Improvement and Infection Control standards is essential to the role.

To succeed you will have active enrolment in, and successful completion of at least 12 months of an NMBA approved Bachelor of Nursing &/or Midwifery OR Diploma of Nursing Program or Successful completion of the nationally recognised qualification, Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Acute Care).

You will have a willingness to accept feedback on performance and development from Registered Nurse/Midwife and work towards achieving identified learning goals. Recent experience in a similar role in an acute Health Care facility is advantageous.

- Salary: $66,827 to $70,168 per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 12% superannuation

- Casual rate: $42.13 to $44.24 per hour (inclusive of casual loading), plus 12% superannuation
