Graphic Designer - Customer & Stakeholder Management (AO5)

Department of Transport and Main Roads | North Queensland Region
Location: Cairns or Townsville

Your new role

Are you a creative storyteller who thrives on turning complex ideas into compelling visuals? TMR's North Queensland Region is looking for a talented Graphic Designer to join our Communication and Stakeholder Management team, based in either Cairns or Townsville.

In this role, you'll be the creative force behind our stakeholder and community engagement program — producing everything from videos and publications to social media content, brochures, maps and digital advertisements. You'll work closely with executives, project teams and external suppliers to translate complex information into clear, engaging visual solutions that connect with our communities across the region.

This is an office-based role with flexible work arrangements negotiable after an initial probation period.

Key responsibilities

- Develop and deliver high-quality creative design solutions aligned with the Region's strategic objectives
- Provide expert visual design and digital communication advice to executives, stakeholders and other Departmental teams
- Build strong working relationships across multidisciplinary teams to understand objectives and translate them into clear visual outputs
- Design and produce a broad range of materials — videos, publications, brochures, newsletters, displays, maps, presentations, social media and digital/print advertisements — aligned with TMR brand guidelines
- Manage competing priorities using team systems and project management tools
- Apply a customer-centred approach,

ensuring outputs meet quality, accessibility, deadline and budget requirements
- Liaise with external suppliers (printers, illustrators, photographers, videographers, animators) to coordinate production
- Stay across emerging trends in visual communication, digital design and creative technology
- Contribute to improving visual communication processes and standards within the team
- Collaborate with Graphic Design teams across the Department for a consistent, coordinated approach

About you

- Proficient in design, publishing and video editing software (Adobe Creative Suite – Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro; Microsoft Office Suite)
- Basic understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), including accessible PDFs and Word documents
- Demonstrated ability to develop innovative, contemporary design solutions for complex communication needs
- Proven experience delivering high-level creative work for large corporate or government organisations
- Comfortable working in a high-volume, quick-paced environment with strong problem-solving and organisational skills
- Able to manage multiple complex projects independently and adapt to shifting priorities
- Experience working within corporate branding and style guidelines
- Exceptional attention to detail, time management and organisational skills
- 5+ years' experience as a visual communicator across graphic design, digital, visual or creative design
- Tertiary qualification in Graphic Design or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Knowledge of Queensland Government processes and policies

Initial contract: 07/09/2026 – 30/06/2027
