Bid Director

Due to continued growth Bielby is seeking a dedicated Bid Director who brings more than coordination, someone who can shape, lead and deliver winning strategies across major infrastructure pursuits.

With over 40 years of proven delivery across major infrastructure, roads, rail and renewables, this is an opportunity to play a key role in influencing the future direction of the business. You’ll operate as the strategic lead across major bids, working closely with executive, pre-contracts and delivery teams to secure and set up successful projects from the outset.

About the role

This is a hands-on Pre-Contracts leadership role where you will take full accountability for the bid lifecycle, from early engagement through to submission, award and structured handover to the delivery team, before moving on to lead the next major pursuit.

You’ll bring a balanced approach: strategic in thinking, practical in execution, ensuring that solutions are both commercially sound and achievable on site.

Key Responsibilities

- Own and lead the full bid lifecycle, shaping win strategy, technical methodology, commercial positioning and delivery approach across complex civil infrastructure pursuits
- Partner with Pre-Contracts, estimating, planning and delivery teams to develop practical, site-ready solutions that reflect construction methodology, staging, access, productivity and resourcing requirements
- Lead strategic engagement with clients, designers, subcontractors and key stakeholders to build confidence in Bielby’s technical capability, delivery certainty and value proposition
- Guide commercial positioning, risk allocation and opportunity assessment with a clear understanding of civil works constraints, contract models, constructability and project execution risk
- Drive a disciplined transition from tender to delivery, ensuring assumptions, methodology, commercial commitments,



risk controls and operational requirements are clearly transferred to project teams
- Strengthen Bielby’s bid capability by improving governance, technical review processes, pursuit discipline and consistency across major civil and infrastructure opportunities

About You

- Proven experience in a Bid Director, Pre-Contracts Manager or senior bid leadership role within civil infrastructure
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (postgraduate study viewed favourably)
- Strong knowledge of D&C; and Alliance contracting models, with the ability to apply a strategic lens to risk and opportunity
- Demonstrated success leading high-value tenders that convert into well-performing projects
- A solid blend of technical engineering insight and commercial acumen
- Ability to build credibility quickly and work effectively across executive, client and project-level stakeholders
- Clear, credible communication style with the ability to influence executive, client and project-level stakeholders

What you’ll bring

- Deep practical understanding of civil infrastructure delivery, including constructability, staging, access, productivity, plant, labour and subcontractor interfaces
- Strong technical-commercial judgement, with the ability to test methodology, challenge assumptions and convert bid strategy into executable project outcomes
- Experience working across D&C;, Alliance or other collaborative contracting models, with confidence navigating risk, opportunity and client expectations
- Credibility with executive, estimating, engineering and delivery teams, built through clear leadership, sound decision-making and practical civil works knowledge
