The Business Development Manager – Freight Rail Products Australasia is responsible for supporting the growth and expansion of Amsted Rail’s freight rail product portfolio across Australia and New Zealand. The role develops and executes strategic account plans for assigned key customers while identifying and pursuing new business opportunities across OEM, wagon maintenance, mining, heavy haul and aftermarket freight rail sectors. The position will be located on the East Coast, Australia.
Working closely with the General Manager – Freight Rail Products and global business stakeholders, the position contributes to delivering annual order intake, revenue targets and strategic business objectives through strong customer engagement, technical sales support and regional market development activities. The role acts as a supportive conduit between customers and Amsted Rail, helping build and strengthen long-term relationships while facilitating effective communication, commercial coordination and the successful introduction and ongoing support of Amsted Rail technologies, systems and services throughout the region. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Account Management
Assist in developing and then executing strategic account plans for assigned customers to support long-term growth, increased market penetration and customer engagement.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customer stakeholders across executive, engineering, procurement, operations and maintenance functions.
Act as a trusted commercial and technical partner to customers across the region.
Maintain regular customer engagement activities to strengthen Amsted Rail’s regional presence and identify future opportunities.
Support the management of customer opportunities from initial engagement through to commercial execution and ongoing support, as required.
Business
Development & Commercial Growth
Identify and pursue opportunities aligned with Amsted Rail’s products, services and strategic growth objectives.
Support the development and execution of regional marketing, sales and business development strategies.
Expand product penetration within existing customers while identifying opportunities with new customers and market segments.
Assist in delivering annual order intake, revenue and growth objectives for the business.
Support commercial proposal development, pricing activities, contract negotiations and customer presentations.
Develop and maintain a healthy opportunity pipeline within the CRM framework. Technical & Project Support
Work collaboratively with engineering, operations, supply chain and global product teams to support customer requirements and project execution.
Assist customers with technical product discussions, application support and solution development activities.
Support long-term projects, fleet programs, testing activities and product implementation initiatives across the region.
Assist in resolving customer concerns relating to product performance, delivery and service support.
Provide market intelligence relating to industry trends, customer requirements, competitor activity and emerging technologies. Industry & Market Engagement
Represent Amsted Rail at customer meetings, rail industry conferences, trade exhibitions and association events, where required.
Support initiatives that strengthen Amsted Rail’s market presence and customer engagement as well as promote Amsted Rail’s integrated portfolio of freight rail systems, components and technologies throughout the region. Reporting & Business Processes
Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts and prospect pipeline reporting.
Prepare regular business activity reports providing visibility into customer engagement, commercial activities and project status.
Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance sales effectiveness, customer responsiveness and regional business performance.
Position
Requirements
Minimum 5–10 years’ experience within freight rail, rollingstock, heavy haul,
mining or related industrial sectors.
Experience in technical sales, key account management, business development or customer-facing engineering roles.
Strong understanding of freight rail products, wagon systems, rollingstock equipment and rail operations.
Demonstrated ability to build customer relationships and support commercial growth initiatives.
Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical and business requirements.
Experience working within international or matrix business environments preferred.
Ability to work independently while collaborating across regional and global teams.
Strong organizational and project coordination capability.
Proficiency using CRM systems, Microsoft Office and business reporting tools.
Ability and willingness to undertake occasional travel (up to 40%) within Australia and New Zealand as well as occasional travel to Asia and North America.
