We are looking for a passionate and reliable Casual Chef to join the kitchen team at the Birkenhead Tavern, a popular waterfront venue located on the banks of the Port River, overlooking the Port Adelaide docks.

Known for its welcoming atmosphere, scenic location and strong food offering featuring quality pub classics and modern Australian dishes, the Birkenhead Tavern is a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

The Role

Working closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team, you will assist with day-to-day kitchen operations, food preparation and service in a busy pub environment.

Key tasks include

- Preparing and cooking meals to a high and consistent standard;
- Supporting lunch, dinner, functions and busy trade periods;
- Following recipes, portion control and presentation standards;
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe kitchen;
- Assisting with stock rotation, preparation lists and general kitchen duties;
- Working collaboratively with the front-of-house team; and
- Bringing a positive, practical and hands-on attitude to every shift.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience as a Chef or Cook in a pub, restaurant or fast-paced kitchen;




- A genuine passion for quality food and great hospitality;
- Strong communication, organisation and time-management skills;
- The ability to remain calm and focused during busy service periods;
- Knowledge of food-safety and kitchen-hygiene standards;
- Flexibility to work across a seven-day roster, including nights and weekends; and
- A team-first attitude, because kitchens are already chaotic enough without ego garnish.
