Guidebeam is a Canberra-based career guidance company helping people better understand their strengths, career possibilities and how work is changing.
We’re looking for a friendly, reliable Casual Event Assistant to help run the Guidebeam booth at Canberra CareersXpo.
This is a short, paid engagement across both event days. You’ll welcome visitors, facilitate our interactive career-exploration activities and help keep the booth running smoothly during busy school-group sessions.
Dates: Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 August 2026
Location: Exhibition Park in Canberra
Commitment: Both event days.
Pay: $40 per hour including superannuation.
Public event hours are 9:00am–2:30pm. Final shift times will include reasonable setup and pack-down time and will be confirmed before engagement.
What you’ll do
- Welcome students, parents, educators and other CareersXpo visitors.
- Help visitors use Guidebeam’s short, iPad-based career activities.
- Keep the visitor flow moving and manage small queues during busy periods.
- Reset devices and materials between visitors.
- Explain Guidebeam using clear talking points provided during the briefing.
- Refer detailed career, product or institutional questions to the Guidebeam team.
- Record easy, anonymous activity counts and useful observations.
- Keep the booth welcoming,
organised and ready throughout the day.
What we’re looking for
- Confident, friendly communication with school-age visitors and adults.
- Reliable, punctual and comfortable working in a busy public environment.
- Comfortable using tablets and learning a straightforward digital experience.
- Able to stay calm, approachable and organised when several visitors arrive at once.
- Available in Canberra for both event days and the pre-event briefing.
- Experience in events, education, customer service, facilitation or community engagement is helpful, but not essential.
- No formal degree or career-guidance qualification is required.
You’ll spend much of the day standing and interacting with visitors. Guidebeam welcomes applicants who may require reasonable adjustments.
Hiring process
