About the Role
Able Westchem is a leading Australian chemical manufacturer based in Bayswater, Western Australia. We are seeking an experienced Chemical Plant Operator to join our production team on a full-time basis.
This position is responsible for operating and monitoring chemical processing plant and equipment to safely manufacture high-quality chemical products while maintaining compliance with production procedures, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and environmental regulations.
Working hours are Monday to Friday between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, averaging 38 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor chemical processing plant, mixing tanks, pumps, mixers, valves and associated production equipment.
- Carry out batch manufacturing operations in accordance with production schedules, batch sheets (BOMs), formulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Measure, weigh and transfer raw materials, surfactants, solvents, acids, catalysts and other chemical additives into processing systems.
- Monitor and record process parameters including temperature, pressure, flow rates, tank levels and batch records to maintain product quality.
- Conduct routine product sampling, quality control testing and basic laboratory checks in accordance with quality procedures.
- Complete production records, batch documentation, inspection reports and shift handover records accurately.
- Perform pre-start inspections, line clearance, cleaning and plant changeovers between production batches.
- Safely handle, store and process hazardous chemicals and Dangerous Goods in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), company procedures and environmental requirements.
- Identify equipment faults, alarms, process deviations and abnormal operating conditions,
and report maintenance requirements promptly.
- Work collaboratively with production and maintenance teams to maximise plant performance, minimise downtime and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), environmental policies and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Chemical Plant Operator or in a chemical manufacturing or industrial processing environment.
- Experience operating batch processing and chemical manufacturing equipment.
- Experience monitoring production processes and maintaining accurate batch documentation.
- Experience handling hazardous chemicals and Dangerous Goods safely.
- Current Forklift (LF) Licence or willingness to obtain.
- Working at Heights and Confined Space certifications are highly regarded.
- Experience working within ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow detailed operating procedures and work safely in a safety-critical manufacturing setting.
